This might be a shock to everyone but the one I see who improved a lot during all of pre-season is Herrera. If we only count the five pre-season games I think Herrera is our best player.

Kinda weird how Miki played just 2 minutes yesterday, and didnt start at OT or Gala either. I think Jesse has a place in the team but Miki has proved he can produce consistently. Should have started all of the games IMO.

If yesterday is anything to go by, Miki could have a shout for #10

(copy paste my reply from the Mkhitaryan thread)

I think right now Lingard is more fitter. That's it. Mkhi will get his way into the team no doubt. Lets just be happy we have competition for a spot in the first team now. Everyone has to train hard. Except for Luke Shaw, I mean who can replace Luke? No one. XD

Best player: tough to call, but I'll go with Shaw - it's so fucking impressive that he looks unphased by that injury.

See more of: Mkhitaryan - puzzled he didn't get at least 30 mins yesterday.

Disappointed: Rooney. Jesus Christ, Rooney.

Favourite goal: Lingard yesterday.

That pre-season came and went quicker than Christmas day. Have you ever felt so under-prepared for a season? On the one hand I'm glad we weren't stuck abroad for an entire month, but missing a game against City is a big deal.

Its been an odd pre-season. Short number of games played (especially with the City game cancelled) means we only actually played 3 pre-season matches and had to convert Rooney's testimonial into one, which is a slight shame because I always enjoy watching a load of old stars coming back to the club to play with the player on his testimonial. It is what it is though and there was a lot of work to do.

I'm pretty happy with how the defensive solidity has come along. Obviously nowhere near where it has to be yet to be a good defence but you could see them improving every game.

Bailly looks great so far - I'm prepared for his occasional brainfart leading to a goal or his occasional overthetop tackle leading to a red card. But his athleticism and technical ability seems fantastic, especially his passing. He was playing it out from the back easily yesterday.

Attacking wise though , there is a lot of work to do. I'd like to have seen Mkhi get a lot more minutes in the #10 role. He's two footed and has a great eye for goal and a killer pass and I think, with his speed, him pushing on past Ibra is a much more realistic scenario than Rooney doing so. Rooney has been poor but hopefully he will find form soon or be dropped.

We are still very slow at transitioning from defence to attack and this is going to be the hardest thing for Mourinho to change. The players he's brought in will help (especially Pogba) but the player's first reaction is still to look for that easy pass for possession rather than to see if they can go forwards.

Overall an OK pre-season which makes me think we will have a slow start but once things click we will be fine.
