I think that ship might have sailed to be honest. By the time he's of no use to us, he likely won't be of use to a now forward-thinking Everton. If he doesn't retire with us, he's going to America.

I simply don't think so. I think benching him is better for the team. However, I can also see the flipside point that showing how a team cares for it's veteran players can have an impact on the whole organization. But I still think benching him is the way to go. I am a Patriots fan and use their success as a guide - never be afraid to cut anyone.

I'm not suggesting he plays every game (he really shouldn't be at the moment). However, there's several factors to keep him here; one is that he is the longest serving player and one that can be used to settle in new players. He has taken that role as captain very seriously, and apart from Di Maria, I don't think anyone has struggled to settle in as he seems to help.

He's also a massive influence in the dressing room (positively). You hear about all the motivational things he's said during team-talks and that has to count for something.

There's also the fact that on a technical talent level; he has an incredible amount that he can teach the younger players like Rashford, Gomes etc.

I was really optimistic about him coming into the season but man he has just looked horrible. It's honestly no better than having Fellaini at the 10. His first touch is terrible. His vision very average at best. His passing very average at best. I hope it's just an early season slump. Not only is he not helping, but he's actively holding the team back. I feel like there are so many opportunities missed because he didn't receive the ball well, he didn't play the ball through where he should have, etc etc. There are too many times when I've said to myself "that would have turned out better had Mata been starting". I think this is Rooney's last season as a regular starter if he wants to finish his career out here. Mourinho is ruthless but right now he doesn't want to piss anyone off. This team has the potential to be much better with a proper 10. Give me someone like Isco and you'd see a world of difference. (Stop saying Isco is like Mata)

I've been vocal about moving Wayne on for awhile, he hasn't exactly been consistent over the past few years. However, I'm still sentimental about the man; he's been a great captain, leader, and can still have MOTM performances, as we saw after December last season. I wouldn't exactly mind him retiring at United, but I feel like he could retire at Everton and no one would blink an eye. The thing that makes me ok with selling him is his inconsistent performances, his high wages, his loss of pace, and his getting up there in age makes the time to make any money off him less and less. I know Mourinho is a big admirer of Rooney's and has wanted to work with him for awhile, so he's definitely not being sold under him anytime soon. Not trying to campaign for him to be sold, I'm just saying I'm indifferent about it and I'd support the club if they decided to go either way with Rooney in the future...but he won't be sold anytime soon, I don't think.
