    It's been so long since we haven't had to fear the fast striker. I like Blind but time and again for every 85 mins of exceptional positioning his glacial pace and/or lack of strength are such a liability.

    That Vardy goal would have been snuffed out with Mike in instead. Just look at that Bailly footrace victory at the end.

          He was amazing, true, but two reckless challenges. One was obviously to stop the counter-attack, but was careless. Few plays after his yellow, could've gone off. Glad he didn't.

          Overall, I think we lack speed in final third. I would go for either Rooney at 10 or Zlatan at 11, but not them both. We seriously can't afford two slow players in attacking third.

            He was great.

            Valencia, Lingard and Martial looked decent.

            Fellaini and Carrick were glacially slow in midfield. Not at all sold on Carrick starting every week at this point in his career.

            Zlatan was pretty bad in general play but redeemed himself at the end.

            Rooney was awful, pretty much his standard performance these days

              Except it's bullshit. People keep saying the "Rooney always needs games at the start of the season to get match fit" but Fergie meant this when he was coming back from injury.

              The Rooney we've seen today is the same Rooney we've seen last season and for England. Not able to provide any cutting edge and terrible touch.

              Problem is after what happened to him at RM and (and to a lesser extent Chelsea), i don't think Mourinho wants to risk causing dressing room unrest by benching the captain. Following SAF's departure it seems as though Rooney has become the most influential player in the dressing room. And right now, Mourinho needs the team to be fully on board.

              Perhaps toward the end of the season if Rooney's decline becomes more apparent, he could try and usher Rooney out of the first team. But for now, it's a very risky option.

                            I took it Mourinho was looking to sub off the weakest defensive link to waste some time, and it didnt make sense to sub off Ibra because of his height.

                              Overall, that was ok.

                              Lingard looked decent again today. Always full of energy and willing to make the run and scored a great goal and I was really happy to see Ibra get his goal too. Defensively we looked fairly solid I'd say, against one of the more annoying attacks in the league (full of energy and pace). I was especially happy with Bailly and Shaw kept Mahrez muted for the majority of the game too. In fact their only goal came from Fellaini's moment of madness which undid the excellent covering he had just done to win back the ball.

                              We looked quite slow going forwards though and overall poor at stretching the Leicester defence. Rooney was poor again and him and Ibra are such a weird duo to try to play together given they both love dropping deep to pick up the ball. Really looking forward to Pogba coming in and offering more in the middle than they have right now, unsure if we have the #10s that will stop Mourinho from being tempted into a 4-3-3.

                              It'll take time though to gel together and get the slow possession based game out of their heads and I imagine we will continue to improve as the season goes on.

                              In a squad full of offensive minded stars, it's interesting that Lingard -who supposedly should be at the bottom end of that hierarchy- continues to score goals and add the x factor. Mourinho is gonna have his hands full writing team cards this season.

                                  Bailly looks much, much, much better than I expected he would this early. He needs to work on not making stupid fouls but there's a lot of good on him. So fast, composed, patient, strong.

                                  Lingaard & Rashford are the future, I'm excited about them and what they could be in another year or two.

                                  Fellaini is trash, he's garbage. I'm sorry but this isn't reactive, I've been saying this for 3 years and so have many others. He brings things no one else does because he is too strong and horribly tall, but there's so much bad with the good. He will score another important goal to win a match eventually or defend a corner but that doesn't mean that whoever played instead of him wouldn't have offered so much more. He has a great attitude and he probably is a really good guy but he's not good enough, he has to go.

                                  Great for Ibra that he managed to score in his debut, not like he needed any confidence, he looked lost for stretches but that's more about the team needing to work better on spacing on the final third.

                                  Valencia is a dream at RB if the CBs can hold the fort. And I would love Rojo staying as a backup LB, I always thought he was quite decent there, and remember he paired so good with Memphis erarly on last season.

                                  Rooney is going to be a problem if Mourinho doesn't dare to bench him whenever he's not working. He's not trash, he doesn't have to leave, I havn't forgotten what he's done and he still can take over games. But some games he's good, very good, and others he dissapears, and unlike any other player he seems like he will stay on the pitch regardless.

                                  No need to be defensive over this, It's just nostalgia and I'm excited about the future, but I got sad when I saw that Ibra scored and Mou rushed to bring on a defensive sub. That's not the United way but that "United way" will never come back. I've no doubt in my mind that Fergie would have sent another offensive player there.

                                    Fellaini was IMMENSE in the game today. First-half, Okazaki was completely shut down. He just couldn't handle Felli in any way.

                                    Sure, he had the terrible back pass that lead to a goal but mistakes happen. His work rate and physicality were massive today. Easily one of the key players in why Leicester had so few chances.

                                        Jose has a lot of faith and respect for Rooney. If he can get Rooney in form and confident it would be a MASSIVE boost for the squad. If he doesn't start playing on par with the rest of the squad I can see him being dropped half way through the season though.

And I thought Fellaini was actually playing really well until that mistake - I think he definitely has a positive role to play this season. Bailey was fast and did well to contain Vardy. I'm a huge Rooney fan but he lacked any venom today - everything seemed to slow down when it got to him. I'd like to see Mkhi or Mata play there with Lingard on the right.

The only remaining player was Fellaini, who is needed at corners to defend it. The whole point of the sub was to waste time and nothing more.                                           Zlatan wasn't amazing today but in tight games world class strikers can be the difference. Bullied Morgan for the winner. Valencia getting another assist as he finally realised that crossing early helps. Bailly was the standout. He's a bit raw and somewhere in the season he will cost us a goal or 2 but as he develops he will be outstanding. Quick powerful. Vardy was in his pocket all game until fellaini played him through with a delightful through ball

                                          1. Jamie Vardy, I hate you. I don't know why but I hate you.

                                          2. The team looked disjointed, passes going astray and a lot of people getting dispossessed. Hopefully the sloppy play will be dealt with.

                                          3. Wayne Rooney...get your Shit together man. You were abysmal today.

                                          4. Jese lingard keeps proving me wrong all the time. Fine goal man keep it up.

                                          5. Bailly. I like him alot. If he'd gotten a red for kicking vardy square in the teeth I'd still be happy.

                                          6. Zlatan you majestic bastard. Even when he's having an average game he still gets the job done.

                                          All in all a fine game. Really hoped I would see Mkhitaryan in all his majesty but i guess the wait continues.

                                          Well first game of the season and we come away with a trophy, that's what it's all about.

                                          Dave reliable as ever. Defence looks solid with Smalling to come back in, very promising considring Bailey is new and Shaw is returning from a long lay off, they looked a solid unit against quality opposition. TonyV should be starting RB.

                                          Midfield was clueless, too slow, no creativity, Fellaini can't go 5 mins without fouling someone of missplacing a simple pass. Rooney looks finished, commands everything yet offers nothing. We have a heap of players who's entire game seemingly consists of playing labouring sideways passes and shielding the defence, we don't need 3 of them on the pitch at the same time !

                                          Martial and Lingard both looked good, Zlatan struggled to impact the game but the midfield provided him with absolutely nothing for the most part.

                                          With all being said Pogba can't come soon enough, but I still fear our slow, uncreative midfield will be what holds us back even with him. You can't get away with being one dimensional and relying on individual talent anymore, teams can park the bus knowing that betweeen them Rooney, Fallaini and the like don't have the know how to break them down. Would like to see a midfield dummy sacraficed to allow Rashford to start up front with Zlatan, his movement would free up so much space without getting into his other assets.

                                          I was most excited to see Bailly play today and he seems to have all the tools to be a top CB. He made a couple of mistakes today, relied on his quickness to bail him out a couple of times and got caught out of position, but man does he have all the things you look for in a CB. He is fast, strong, intelligent, big, decent with his feet and a hard-worker. I'm excited for him. Him and Smalling together could be something else. Holy smokes.

                                          Herrera gave the game life and urgency that we needed. He should have started. While Fellaini was okay in the first half(despite missing several easy passes), he was absolutely atrocious in the 2nd half. Rooney was okay, not nearly as bad as everyone is making it seem, but he needs to improve our should be dropped.

                                          Surprised Miki didn't start or at least come on sooner, and then to sub Mata who was a sub? Didn't make sense.

                                          Ibra got his goal, Lingard with a great run and goal. Valencia also looked good, as did Shaw. Lots of rust still from Martial in particular.
