0' Teams are out, anthem's been sung, United in red, Leicester in blue. WE'RE UNDERWAY! Leicester kick off!

5' The first Leicester attack of the game is dangerous as Vardy 'megs Bailly in the box and it requires Blind to come across and clear for a corner. United deal with the threat.

9' The game is being played at a rapid pace with neither team having much time to breathe or get time on the ball. Martial's first chance of the game hits the side netting.

12' Shaw whips in a cross to the edge of the box that Rooney gets his head on but it's straight at Schmeichel who saves easily.

15' Another United chance comes from Ibra getting a head on the ball and it falls to Fellaini who swivels but Schmeichel saves and gathers eventually. Simpson is down and getting treatment but he'll be fine.

19' Vardy skips past Carrick and Bailly in midfield and then lays it off to Okazaki whose left-footed shot is deflected inches wide of the post. From the corner, Okazaki flies in at the near post and his header is destined for the corner but it flies off the bar and out of the box. Dangerous times.

24' Our front four are fluid and Lingard and Martial have swapped sides as of now. Leicester are dominating possession and play and have been for the past five or so minutes. No major chances since hitting the bar though.

My only concern at the moment is the vulnerability when we're attacked at pace, especially via dribbling. Leicester seem rather good at that.

Few early observations.

  1. We should utilise crossing from wide now we have 2 pacey wings and a quality target man. It would intern free up space through the middle.

  2. Fellaini should be up the pitch or on the bench, already misplaced 2 5 yard passes.

  3. We are sorely lacking a central playmaker who can pick apart a compact defence. The likes of Scholes would have a field day against this Leicester style of play. Hopefully Pogba can offer that ?

This is where you appreciate Rashford and Mata a little more. When Rooney received the ball from Fellaini. Fellaini carried on the run into the box.

Mata or Rashford would look to flick that on or take a risky pass to get through to him. In this instance Rooney (and I've seen Carrick, Lingard and a couple others like Fellaini do this) went for the safe pass out wide.

We need to get the risk-taking back ingrained. Fellaini might have cocked it up, but he also might have gone one-on-one.

You can tell with a player like Di Maria that he was being misused. In isolation he looked good: he could control the ball, dribble, pass, shoot. But in the aggregate his play was poor because he was out of position and being told to control the ball and pass back or square instead of running at people.

There's no evidence that Rooney is being misused, he just looks pap. No touch, passing ability has never been that good (blah blah hollywood 30 yarders), can't beat a man, hasn't got any pace. What exactly is he in the hole for? He should be backup to Zlatan and Rash.
