We didn't give them 150 billion. We froze 150 billion in Iranian assets as part of the sanctions to get them to agree to the nuclear deal. Once they agreed to the deal we gave their own money back to them. Iran didn't make a cent out of this deal.

That money was actually their money. It was from a weapons deal with the Shah. The Shah bought billions of dollars worth of weapons from the USA (in the equivalent of 1979 dollars). Then the revolution happened so the USA never delivered the weapons to them. Iran has had a claim against us for all this time for not delivering the weapons to them that they paid for.

The case has been working its way to the Hague, which would definitely have ruled in Iran's favor. The US decided that the cheapest option was to settle the claim before it got to the courts where we would have had to pay a lot more in interest.

A local congressman visited my work earlier this week. I work at a manufacturing company and he wanted to get a perspective of local workers. I hadn't heard of him before (I work in a different district than where I live) so I looked him up and most of the bills he co-wrote/sponsored were about keeping American money out of Iran. I wasn't sure why he was so adamant about this one topic and was a little wary as he was insulting Trump a bit in his speech but this is real.

Things like this is why we need to reevaluate our relations in the Middle East. Our deals with Saudi Arabia and Iran are funding the groups that kill our people and our allies in the West. I'm not sure if military assault is the correct option, but we cannot be making deals with places that continuously try to kill us with our own money. I know that cutting off all support can lead to more radicalization due to mass poverty but if it comes to that then maybe the military option is the best one unfortunately.
