I've always enjoyed a vigorous walk. As a fellow going his own way, I never have to carry the load for someone else, I never have to wait for slowpokes, and I certainly never have to listen to complaints or demands.
I'm taking those really long, physically challenging walks now-- 20 or 30km in a day, cross-country--and it doesn't really bother me much that I'm doing it all solo. Oh, sure; I share the photos with my Facebook folks, but the experience alone is quite satisfying on its own merits.
There's a 30km+ day hike I want to do this summer. I've already attempted it once, and had to cut the plan short because I was running out of daylight (I started out too late). Anyway, the plan is to take another go at it sometime this month.
I could never live like this when women were in my life.
