I have a question, maybe someone here has the answer.

Is it true that the backpack might not have contained any explosive materials? Because reading the article, it sounds like that is a possibility- they bring these objects (often bags) to explosion through means brought in my the disposal unit. Is this manipulative wording, or a legitimate possibility?

This is misleading. The police conducted a controlled explosion of an unattended backpack. The explosion was from police ordnance, not the backpack. It was a security precaution, that's all.

      brazil has had leftist rule for over a decade. their corrupt and overregulated economy squandered a period of high commodity prices. a more free market economy would have harnessed the boom times to lift millions out of poverty and create a better functioning society.

      instead, we've seen that their economy is built on shoddy foundations, debt is out of control, and the country is in need of significant reform.

      meanwhile, resources have been squandered on a vanity project for brazil's politicians, that is now backfiring because of the repugnant conditions for the athletes and the rampant crime.
