Trump makes recurring campaign donations great again (by not letting you cancel them)

Donald Trump is no stranger to being called a scam artist. Shoddy products (Trump University), bad investments (Mexico), and his inability to stop getting sued long enough to trick the populace into believing he’s a viable presidential candidate, it seems, were just the beginning.

Now he’s scamming his own supporters with a move that I can only presume has actual snakes recoiling in horror each time they hear ‘The Donald’ being referred to as one of them.

Another conference. “Great.”

The latest scandal was uncovered by CNN reporter Jeremy Diamond, who sent out a tweet noting that a Trump supporter had emailed him to say he was unable to cancel his recurring contribution to Trump’s campaign.

Yesterday, Mic confirmed this was true for others as well, as no, there isn’t a button to cancel your recurring contribution to the Trump campaign. You can’t remove the credit card information. You can’t stop it from taking out next month’s payment. Hell, you might not even be able to reach a campaign spokesperson to stop it for you — although you can certainly try to fill out the online contact form and hope for the best.

Clinton — while arguably just as bad a presidential candidate — at least has the option to remove a card on her site for recurring payments.

The move to keep billing you in perpetuity without giving you an option to opt-out of future payments, you might be surprised, isn’t illegal — until you reach the contribution limit of $2,700, that is. We’re unsure at this time whether the website has a safeguard in place to stop donations at that point.

For those caught in this nightmarish hell — the credit card situation, not the hell of being a Trump supporter — your best bet at this point is to contact the card issuer and ask them to cancel future payments, or the card itself.
