The Community Shield as a Statement (self.reddevils)

Winning the Community Shield in the right way could set the tone for the rest of the season. Leicester City are the reigning champions. United have struggled to compete, and certainly haven't been competing at the level the world is used to seeing. If United go out there and absolutely batter the reigning Champions, then it will be a clear show of intent for this season. 'We may have fallen, but we will rise again and we want the title.'

This. I thought for a second about that Community Shield win, but it wasn't against the current Champs. Also, Moyes isn't Mourinho, with Mou it's going to be a stronger statement if we manage to clinch that huge win.

The intent was getting mourinho and then signing who he did and hopefully Pogba completed next week.

If we win or lose 5-0 I still wouldn't look too much into it. Pre season seems like it was a disaster with fitness and match time. 100% everyone wants to win and play but fitness and the team clicking in Mourinhos way is pretty important at this stage. Shit gets real next week.
