Where does Mourinhos bad reputation of developing young players come from? (self.reddevils)

I understand the criticism about Mourinho buying his way to success - imo 95% of managers do so. But I just don't understand the talk about he using "ready" players and not trusting in academy. How on earth could you use academy players regularly in Real? Abrahimovic ain't too patient either. I don't have much knowledge about Inter but can't name another academy pick up since Balotelli.

Just curious, hope Jose will prove the talk wrong with talents as Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah. And improve his not so flattering 49-player list.

It probably comes from the fact that across the four sides he's managed at the highest level (Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real), he's never used academy players.

I think it's only being made an issue because he's joining us. You're right, there's less expectation of youth promotion at his former clubs.

I think it came from his first Chelsea period. Chelsea is a club that have incredibly many talents on their wage bill but they tend to loan them out so they can get playing time. But I believe Mourinho never used players like Lukaku and De Buyne etc. He also didn't use academy players in the other clubs. But he did sign young players and used them lik Varane, he just didn't use academy players.
