I don't really know what else to expect from a default sub, but this thread about the upcoming Dunkirk film has some old favourites.
Let's start with something light to whet your palate.
I hope they show Hitler giving the stop order which also had a big effect on the retreat.
Now on to the main. MUH INVINCIBLE TIGERS.
No tank during WW2 was capable of surviving a tiger tank hit at optimal range.
Royal Navy don't real! RAF don't real!
It's likely that if Hitler had captured the BEF that the UK would have sued for peace to get their men back. No UK in the war, no bases for American bombers and no second front against the Nazis. Germany wins the war as the Russian runs out manpower in 1944.
MUH ASIATIC HORDES.
Yes, let's laud the Soviet Union that treated the Eastern Front like a meat grinder throwing wave after wave of under trained and under equipped troops at the Germans as a form of forcing the Germans to use up their bullets. I cannot stand the preposterous level of b.s. "credit" that the Soviets are given for simply throwing men into Hitler's chainsaws.
Soviets were just as bad as the Nazis.
maybe if they didn't turn out to be just as bad as the nazis we would appreciate them more.
Gulag was worse than Einsatzgruppen.
A lot easier to account for when the Soviets don't have a tendency to take prisoners.
Victors had poor tactics.
Yes. Getting slaughtered via poor tactics and overall leadership. Totally deserving of praise. Not to mention badmouthing all the aid they received from the other allied nations and acting like the arctic convoys were a walk in the park while the best thing the Soviet navy could do is sink hospital ships.
And for dessert, Hitler saved the BEF.
As amazing as the retreat was, it was actually Hitler who called his troops off and let the British and French go. Otherwise, the Nazis would have crushed them.
I bet this movie will be massive ahem Hollywood revision.
I'm still looking forward to the film, though.
