I've seen it suggested that Martial might regress a little this year given his huge workload last season and Euros, so hopefully he's fully fit and recharged because he should have LW locked down this year. We'll have a lot of flexibility with subs, and last night the front four were moving all over the field. I can imagine a situation where Zlatan comes out, Martial moves up top, and Memphis comes in on the left.

At this point, I think Ash is a valuable glue guy. He's one of the few left that's won things with SAF and seems like an awesome dude, and for as much shit as he gets he'll always pop up with a big performance out of the blue.

Exactly. I love watching Young because you know he's going to put his all into the game.

Don't think it'll even be because of work load, every young player is inconsistent, I follow Ajax closely as well and I see the exact same thing every year, El Ghazi and Fischer are some recent ones.

Toto looked better over time last night, by the end he was dribbling like normal, but his end product clearly was still a little rusty.

Rio made a great point last night on BT that Martial needs to work on his off-the-ball movement to get to the next level, especially if we're using more static players like Zlatan and Rooney in the team.

Loved how he (Edit: Young) came on yesterday and just started putting challenges in. (he didn't win many to be fair, but his desire to get "stuck in" was good to see)

I also expect teams to shut Martial down a little more effectively this year. He's great at what he does, but I'm not convinced he has a huge repertoire of moves. Hope he proves me wrong.

May I ask why? Because he isn't elite, taking up game time Januzaj or someone else could use to develop?

I think Martial is the obvious starter, and should look to improve with less pressure from defenders due to Shaw returning and Zlatan warranting close coverage from CB's.

I think he'll actually spend a decent amount of time playing centrally. Zlatan will drop deep and Shaw will be overlapping, so he'll hopefully fill and exploit the space those two create. Those three attacking one side of a defense is terrifying. Do you choose to leave Zlatan free near the box, Martial to dribble in space, or Shaw running onto a ball down the wing?

I love Martial, but I am also hoping for a bounce back season from Memphis. Young, if he stays healthy and stops diving, could be a big piece in Mou's team moving forward. Adnan, I don't see playing for us anytime soon. I had big hopes for him when I first saw him play, but he hasn't progressed since year one. Lingard is the hometown hero. The Dabberman should get some significant minutes this year because of his work up and down the field, and his knack of scoring the big goal. Should be quite a battle moving forward.

Left wing is a strong place for us right now. It's Martial's to lose, and we have Memphis who can step up/rotate there, as well as Young for backup and potentially Januzaj. More than enough in that position I think, and with Shaw bombing down the wing, hopefully it'll mean Martial can drift inside a little more.

We are pretty much covered in Left Wing when looking at players like Memphis, Martial, Rashford and probably Januzaj, all of them who could easily fill in that role given the opportunity. Unlike last year, when Martial started most matches in LW to accomodate Rashford or Rooney in ST role, under new incoming manager, every player could keep their difficulties into one side and start afresh to prove their worth and earn a starting place. Notably, Januzaj and Memphis have a glorious opportunity to show off their worthiness, though former would find it hard to get a chance given his recent expel from the 22-man squad chosen by Mourinho. For Memphis, this season could turn out to be a make or break one, considering how much he struggled in his debut season with the club.

With the arrival of Luke Shaw, Memphis could once again form a formidable partnership, they almost put together during the start of last season only to be spoiled by an horrendous injury suffered by English full back which ruled him out for rest of the season. So with his arrival, I'm very much optimistic about Memphis's revival.

Backup wise, we have Ashley Young who could fill in whenever needed, also Rashford could also have a go given his eloquent skills and pace. Since, Mourinho is mostly be using a short 22-man squad, I don't think he'll buy a player to this position.

As long as Memphis and Martial are playing, I'm happy with our backups and rotation. They both should get enough playing time, which of course is possible given the Europa league participation and other cup competitions. More importantly, they should also try to maintain that consistency which is most important to survive nine month long journey.

    • Very content with what we have. Shaw's return only helps our forwards down the left.

    • I can see Zlatan and Rooney not playing every game this year. There's the unpredictable, too, like injuries. But since signing Mhki I feel we are looking very good in attack. We have a pretty fluid group to play across the three attacking midfield roles, burgeoning young and talented forwards, and a wily and experienced 9 and 10 duo.

    • Memphis should take his first season with the club in stride, endeavor, and persevere. He has the capability to be a world beater. Getting a run of games and finding some good form is crucial to build his confidence back up. I have firm faith he will do just that this season. Yet again, Luke Shaw coming back is crucial. I am far less optimistic over Januzaj, and think a permanent move away from United is probably best by this point.

    • Chong is supposed to be fucking class. Callum Gribbin could end up being a great winger imo (but i also think he could be a great 8 or 10)

Martial will be untouchable for both Memphis and the rest of the BPL defenders if he continues where he left off last season. Think Memphis will be sold next summer.

Surely the point of getting rid of downvotes is so that people can give their opinions (like this) without being downvoted?!? Else what's the point of even getting rid of them.
