I am still waiting for my product to be delivered in India. Anyone else from India who has backed this and received the product yet?
Also I have not paid the extra $15.
From The Netherlands, nothing yet. Also Mr. Daniel Sunkoun Lee seems to be disappeared off the face of the earth (last kickstarter login July 18th), so I'll wait till the end of this week. If there is no dashcam (and it has to be working) or a reaction of Daniel Sunkoun Lee I'll charge back the money and will report him for fraud. I really shouldn't have trusted this kickstarter... really bad that these A%$#holes ruin Kickstarter.
I sent that extra $15 back on the 21st and although not necessarily connected, still haven't received a tracking number. Any news on shipment to the UK?
For anyone interested I uploaded videos of my Anytek at550 and the CLEX. I forgot to turn off the radio so I had to remove the audio from the CLEX front videos for YouTube to accept them due to copyright complaints. I will leave them up for a few days, and try to do more sometime else with no radio. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYhxB-pAtkmkbMUItVFHUfQ
Still no update on the tracking numbers, in few days it will be close to three weeks since shipping started. Does it get this long to get a tracking number for international shipping, since tracking number is something that you get once you initiate shipping. I am worried now.
@sladekal I live in Tucson and can vouch for the plastic. I honestly didn't notice what it looked like when I installed it so I assumed the product came like this. The opening for the sd card isn't straight like it should be instead its bowed on one side. The side with the lens has already started turning white. I don't think it will make it through summer.
I managed to get mine to stop going into the calibration mode by placing a couple rubber bands to press on the sides of the case. The bad news however; I mounted it along side my other camera and took a trip to Tucson. Now I would not say it fully melted, but the front and center plastics are deformed. The front plastic seems to have shrunk, pulling and deforming the center gray plastic, making it hard to now turn off the camera, and remove the SD card. The rear plastic that holds the screen is fine, and so is the screen. The dash cam I have been using for years is fine no problems at all. The Clex has bad quality plastic, so if you live in a hot environment watch out.
@javier, the screen turn off after 3mins just like most because the screen create distraction while driving. There should be function to keep it on, however there is not. I believe the light flashes when the G-sensor shock activated. The creator basically ditched this project and ran away with the money.
I won't even address the quality issues--but they really need to put up some sort of guide to the "features" and how to set it up. The little 4 page instruction guide enclosed, just doesn't cut it. Why does it turn off after about 3 minutes? Do I have to keep pressing the touch screen to bring back the picture? Is it still recording when the video turns off? What do the colored lights mean when they flash (obvs it loses the GPS signal often)? So many questions yet so few answers.
I agreed with Mark Christian about "the most expensive 16GB micro SD cards I've ever purchased." But if you think a little more positive way, you got the cig power supply cable and and a long USB cable together with the micro SD card.
No doubt, there are some rough edges, most of which will only require software fixes, but perhaps my expectations were pretty low to start with. For what I wanted it for it'll get the job done, and at a reasonable price point (kickstarter price, not retail). If they want to justify the retail price they definitely need to put a lot more polish on these things.
I was happy to see the time/voltage auto-shutdown settings, so there's that.
End sum: this could have been a lot worse, but at the end of the day I feel like I got some usable. If SDS steps up with some firmware updates all the better... let's hope they actually have a way to push end-user updates...
The only positive thing I can say about this product is that it was actually shipped to us. I should have seen the warning signs throughout the original post as they were very telling, to me at least.
- Microphone doesn't work
- It's not 1080p, but then again they advertised it as 1280x720 recording, which is not 1080p
- Plenty of bugs to fix, language incorrect in places, reversed camera in the rear, etc
- Quality of recording lived up to the demo videos, had I only paid attention... The camera on the cell phone recording the dash cam was higher quality than the cam itself
- Amazon has a very similar forward facing dash cam for $30... So yeah... This was intended as a bargain basement deal and that's what we received.
- The lack of adjustable settings is disgraceful. This can be fixed but I'm not confident in the creator to produce or provide updates for this.
Final thoughts:
Buying two of these = the most expensive 16GB micro SD cards I've ever purchased.
LOL. Okay, one more quibble: The rear freaking camera records the video reversed horizontally. I'm watching the video and it just occurred to me that the landmarks are on the wrong side of the street, and I'm making the wrong turns. Should be fixable with a firmware update, though.
Guess what was waiting for me when I came home? Kicked the tires, and I'm glad to say that it's not quite the lemon a lot of people here report. A few quibbles: the rear camera isn't HD, it's SD, and neither of which are quite good enough to capture license plate numbers without tailgating, so maybe if I rear-end someone... ;-)
The front lens wasn't quite as poorly focused on the windshield as some have reported, not even when hitting the windshield washer & wipers. It did, however, pick up some reflections off the dash -- on a cloudy, rainy day, no less -- a polarization filter would have been useful.
I have yet to really play with all the features (like the GPS) or test night driving. That said, it's more than adequate for insurance/court purposes, I believe. If all of the units I received meet this standard, and barring and unforeseen surprises, I'd consider this kickstarter a success.
Dash cam is not something new, it has been around and there are many varieties out there to choose from. I'm disappointed in backing this project, the development and customer service are poor.
The settings are lacking, could have just clone a different dash cam and it would have been better. No option to pick quality, no option for loop sequence from 3min,5min. No GPS even though they said it would be included. Hopefully they reply and fix some of the issue.
I really want to give them the benefit of the doubt but my patience is wearing very thin. Even if you don't have an answer to some of the problems we have encountered at least let us know you haven't just run off. This is your first project and I would have been surprised if it was perfect, work with us and fix what you can within reason. If you ever plan on becoming a successful business you need to prove that you can provide answers and customer service even under stressful conditions. If you leave us high and dry I doubt these supporters will ever stop following you. People will always know how you handled this situation.
I must ask. For those of you having video quality problems and touch screen issues, you are taking the protective film off the lens and touch sceen? Yes?
Joe have u replayed it on a computer? Day/night.
Have u used all the settings? Including the back button?
I ask so as to see what the variants are of the builds.
The camera has arrived and I installed it works great when you drive it's on for a few seconds so you actually see the screen and its tapping frontal view... like 20 seconds later the screen turns black for safety reason and if you want it back on you just touch the screen . Overall for the price and quality it's a great purchase. I don't understand what all these negative post are about but mine is working fine simple and easy installation and product.
I haven't gotten a tracking number yet, but it's starting to look like this has been a complete boondoggle. Would have been a fantastic deal if everything worked as promised, but from the comments below sounds like a few bumps might just cause the units to disassemble themselves.
Selling this as HD video at a price point of $199 MSRP, I expected much more. Low quality video is bad enough, but that is not my main issue... mine is out of focus for anything beyond my windshield.
After reading previous comments, I was also worried I would have problems with it myself..
However, my honest expectations of the device was just as I thought it would be.
I knew that I wouldn't be getting top quality of the video playback of the camera, but it did the job that I needed. I was hoping to see what's going on in front and rear of my car while I'm driving and I'm satisfied with it. Again, not the best quality of the video where I can see the name of the streets from afar, but I was able to see the license plates of the cars right in front and rear of my car.
The installation of the device to my car was very easy also. All I had to do was mount it on my front and rear window and adjust the angle of the camera to where I wanted to see. The cable of the device was long enough for me to push them to the sides so that it doesn't "hang" around while I am driving.
As for the touch screen of the dash cam, I didn't have much problem pressing the back button or any other features that the cam provides, so I can't really comprehend to what others are saying with the buttons and such.
Overall, for the price of the device, I knew that I was not going to get the perfect dash cam that I wanted for my vehicle, however it gets the job done for me so I'm pretty satisfied.
Only thing that I wish for an improvement would definitely be the quality of the video, but I understand that they aren't able to provide best quality with the price they announced.
For those of you who are waiting for a response, I would like to say to give them a little more time to find the solutions to each one of your questions. I also asked a question myself about the 'event detection' feature and did receive a response few days after, but in the end got a response back.
Hopefully my comment had helped out those people who are thinking this product was a waste, or who are still waiting for theirs to come. I will try and post more comments in the future after using the device more. I personally think I received what I had expected.
Looked at night time video from last night and I think I am done with this device. The bad video quality in the day makes really crappy night time video. I had high hopes for this device, but it is crap. I don't have many of the issues noted below with reliability.... but my issues are:
- I have it on the lowest sensitivity setting but it still has an event detection on nearly every bump I go over
- video is focused perfectly at dots on my windshield but blurry for anything at a distance. Can't read a license plate on the car right in front of me
- light sensitivity reacts slowly and records too dark in dark areas and blows out on very light areas
I am going back to my Garmin. I just wish it had front and back cameras...
I messaged a few concerns to them and haven't gotten a response. If we don't hear back from them I will definitely express the quality and service of this product on the other project page.
Update: Far from reliable. I managed to get past the screen calibration, but had to press on the left and sight side of the case for it to work. I also have to hold the sides of the case or it will often go back to the calibration screen, hitting a bump in the road, or tapping the the screen to switch from front and rear camera caused this to happen many times. Also back does not work from the settings menu. Video recording quality also sucks, cant read street signs when playing back the videos on my computer. I have another dash cam that is 1080 HD and can clearly read the signs with its recordings. Turning the device off and back on over half the times it wants to recalibrate the screen, something is definitely wrong with mine.
Use this space to cheer the creator along, ask questions, and talk to your fellow backers. Please remember to be respectful and considerate. Thanks!
