I would like to start a game called the trending post.

It works by trying to figure a story/event/picture that would connect all 5 subreddits.

Edit: I Probably should have launched this game on a day where I could do it my self....

Archaeologists have found some more clues that describe how the Americans lived in the year 2016. Clues point to the American civilisation having had very advanced knowledge of physics, which, among other things, allowed it to create complex carriages that rolled on their own on soft wheels.

This knowledge seems to have extended to the infinitely small, where it was used to create computers that calculated cryptographic algorithms that led to the creation of a plethora of digital currencies, as well as games on small computers that showed simulated creatures on small screens that were encased in glass.

In the world of the game, one of these creatures was made with a soft material that could transform into the other creatures in the game. We are still busy figuring out whether this material is the same as was used for the wheels on the carriages.

Kudos to /u/live4lifelegit for the idea, and kudos to my boredom for actually making the comment that yielded the first post of this new sub

People at /r/FindingDitto are looking for an unreleased Pokemon.

Pulling random theories out of their buttholes and trying them to see if it spawns.

No, shoving 10 lucky eggs up your bum while sacrificing bulbasaurs in mickey d's aren't going to do jack shit!

Just wait for them to release it.

It is eerily reminiscent of the old Pokemon Red/Blue days with the strange things people where trying to get Mew and the like.

Yeah, I remember that.

I spent hours trying ways to get a mew, and I was convinced after the missingno glitch.

But nope, just red herrings.

But here's the thing, you could catch Mew in Red/Blue. And the way you do it really does sound like a "my uncle works at Nintendo" story.

Gold/Silver had the "Mew is under the truck" rumor, which turned out to be fake.

Even RBY had the Mew truck rumor; I remember trying it in those games too!

I think the Mew under the truck rumor was for Red/Blue. Don't know if Gold/Silver even had the truck.

Of course, Gold/Silver had their own "sounds like complete bullshit" tricks.

How do you catch Mew in red?

The first documented and most commonly known method to perform the Mew glitch involves the Gambler on Route 8, who is facing north towards the Underground Path entrance, and the Youngster on Route 25 who is facing north and has a Slowpoke on his team. The player must have defeated neither Trainer before, and must also have a Pokémon who can use Fly on their team. The player must stand directly beneath the Underground Path entrance door, at which point the aforementioned Gambler will be exactly one tile offscreen. It is recommended that the player save the game at this point in case a mistake occurs in a future step. The player then can begin the glitch by taking one step down, and then pressing and holding the Start button while the step is occurring. The Gambler will be scrolled onto the screen during this process and the player will enter his line of sight, but the start menu should appear before the Gambler "sees" the player. From the start menu, the player must Fly away (with the most convenient location being Cerulean City). If the previous steps have been performed correctly, the Gambler will have the indicative exclamation mark appear above his head, but then the Fly animation will begin before he can walk up and challenge the player. After landing in Cerulean City, the Start, A, and B buttons will not function properly, as the game believes that the player is about to be in a battle. From here, the player should walk to Route 25 and battle the aforementioned Youngster. Importantly, the Youngster must walk up to the player (must have at least 1 tile between the player and the Youngster when the player is spotted) to initiate the battle, or else the game will soft lock. After battling the Youngster, the previously disabled buttons will now work again. The player must now return to Route 8 (with the most convenient method being Flying to Lavender Town and heading west). Upon entering the Route, the start menu will appear by itself; closing the menu will immediately begin a battle with a wild Level 7 Mew.

Would you have believed it, if someone had told you this when you were 10?

[–]Ask_me_about_WoTMUD 8ポイント9ポイント  (0子コメント)

100% did not.

I didn't believe it till I saw it online years later, and did it for my VC version of Red recently and it worked. The fucking truck sounded more realistic. :P

You can also use an abra with teleport instead of using fly

basicly anything that allows you to immediately change your position.

I've got a mew in my Pokemon Yellow from doing exactly this, so I can 100% confirm that this works.

Basically, you just bug the game out, and it thinks you're stuck in Fight Mode, and then the next guy you fight basically rewrites part of the code based on the Special Stat of the pokemon you faint last. Then you cross from one route to another, and the game glitches and goes "OH! We weren't in a fight, but NOW we are!" and dumps whatever pokemon the code tells it to. In the case of this one, it's a Mew. But, you can literally catch any pokemon in R/B/Y with this glitch, if you glitch the coding right.

It's the memory handling for these old games combined with bugs which allows players to access these memory parts. It's the same with the misingno-cheat. You write your own name in the memory part of wild pokemon when you talk to the old guy and then you access the one part in the world where you catch wild pokemon where the game doesn't overwrite the wild pokemon data, so the wild pokemon are all glitchy.

[–]Briak 5

But bro if you beat the Elite Four sixteen times in a row with the same Pokemon lineup and then use an Old Rod on Professor Oak you can get Digimon in your game! I've seen it!!!

which is accurate because a fuckton of pokemon go players probably haven't touched a pokemon game since red/blue

If you go to any Wal-Mart in Arkansas and turn in 10 pokemon with CP above 1500 for candy to professor Oak a Ditto will spawn it's been confirmed on twitter since last night.

lol, that reminds me of these "cheats" for finding mew in gen 1 that went like "catch 20 rattatas and 30 pidgeys". (yes I know there is an actual bug that allows you to find mew)

Don't know anything about bitcoin but it sounds like they are separating the weak from the strong

Bitcoin works using "blockchain" technology. To provide a massively oversimplified explanation, basically every transaction is put into a long chain of transactions. Normally they'd be a single line. A "fork" in that chain is something that normally shouldn't happen, but if it did there would be two valid paths in bitcoin. Two separate blocks in the chain would connect to the same one, and from there they never join up again.

It would essentially be two separate currencies with the same name and a common history.

As for why they're doing it, I have no idea. I don't really know anything about the bitcoin community, I just studied the basic technology in a uni course one semester.

    Hi.

I'm the mod over at r/btcfork. I'll try and give an explanation of why we are forking.

The people that are currently "in charge" are taking bitcoin off on a completely different tangent, one that I and many others feel is a serious violation of the founding vision behind bitcoin. The fact that there is anyone "in charge" is a serious problem in itself and is one of the things we hope to solve. They intend to make bitcoin into a slow and expensive settlement network where only high value transaction will be economically viable. They intend to then put higher network layers above bitcoin which will allow a larger throughput but using a lower security model. There are strong arguments against this model which I won't go into here but if you are interested I will explain them.

The very title of the Bitcoin Whitepaper is "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System". Not "Bitcoin: A Settlement System for Large Payments". No one I know of is against higher network in principle, but not as the basis for all normal payments. The basis for all normal payments should be the bitcoin network and all development should go towards realising this goal.

    What is forking?

The plan is to fork the network with whatever percentage of hash rate we can get. This means that bitcoin will be split into two sets of coins with differing ideologies and features. Everyone who holds bitcoin before the split will hold identical amounts of both sets of bitcoin after the split. They will then be able to sell, save or buy both sets of bitcoin.

    What is the plan?

We don't have an exact plan for this process yet, or what specific features the split will have. This is one of the reasons I have created this sub, to bring people together to generate a solid plan to work towards.

How does it benefit us all?

It allows the market to decide which is the best way forward for bitcoin instead of a small group of people. If Satoshi's original vision for bitcoin was wrong then the market should show this, but it will also show that it was right by making the fork successful. In the long run this should make bitcoin stronger by weeding out bad ideas and supporting good ideas.

I hope this all helps you understand the situation.

Everyone who holds bitcoin before the split will hold identical amounts of both sets of bitcoin after the split. They will then be able to sell, save or buy both sets of bitcoin.

Wouldn't this be effectively "printing" extra bitcoin? This seems like it would cause huge inflation, wouldn't it?

Also, wouldn't the market uncertainty of each bitcoin branches devalue both currencies? If people can't know for sure right off the bat which branch will ultimately succeed, they won't want to accept/hold on to either one until they can be sure which branch is going to keep. This would threaten further inflation, right?

There would be double the number of bitcoin after the fork, yes. What will most likely happen is that the total market cap of both forks will stay around the same as it was pre-fork. I.e. btc-s + btc-c = btc. We have evidence for this conclusion for the ethereum split of a similar nature. You can look at the charts here at look at the ethereum and ethereum classic charts specifically and you will notice they are an almost mirror image of each other.

Exactly what ratio each side of the fork will retain its unknown but the market will get to decide based on the merits of each.

Uncertainty would effect the price negatively, but having two differing routes to succeed could give the market more confidence in bitcoin's success.

If people can't know for sure right off the bat which branch will ultimately succeed, they won't want to accept/hold on to either one until they can be sure which branch is going to keep. This would threaten further inflation, right?

This wouldn't cause further inflation no. Also the split doesn't really cause inflation either. Traditional inflation is caused by a government printing more currency and using it how they see fit. This devalues all the currency already in existence. When a hardfork split occurs in a cryptocurrency, all holders of the old currency hold equal amounts of both currencies after the split. It is much more like a stock split.

Thanks. Do you think it will diminish it's anonymity at all?

This will not diminish pseudonymity, no.

No idea. I literally know nothing about why they are forking it or what difference there will be between the two forks.

You'd best ask the folks at /r/btcfork, or some other forum for bitcoin enthusiasts, if you want more specific details about this case.

There has been a large idealogical split in the community and some of us feel that forking/splitting the network is the best way forward. Se my comment below for more information, or even better, join us in r/btcfork and we'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

How many subreddits does Pokemon Go have now, 5? This is getting slightly out of hand.

Oh, far more that that. The teams alone have a minimum of 6 due to the change from colour team names in the beta to unique names. It's not like the site's running out of subreddits though.
