Everyone saying they don't understand what Trump is doing, that Trump is crazy or trying to blow the election, while I understand the idea, I just don't think it's true. Rather, what I think Trump and his aides are doing is purposefully using Alt-right talking points to drum up support from the more racist elements of the base. Pretty much everything Trump has said about the Khans was posted a day or hours earlier by alt-right white supremacist websites, to the point where I was actually surprised no official campaign representative tried to connect Khan to the Muslim Brotherhood or said he wanted to institute Sharia law in the US. I think Trump is taking a gamble, hoping that he'll be able to drum up enough disaffected white voters that he'll be able to pull off a win in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, which might be enough to push him through 270.

Also, I don't know how you get flair around here, but I want mine to be (((Globalist))). It's my latest favorite alt-right synonym for Jew so far.

You might be onto something about using racialism, unfortunately.

He probably got into this to further his brand, but I think it's starting to sink in for him that this entire thing is going to permanently damage it. If he loses he's going to be known at worst as a racist Nazi and at best as a fool who was easily-manipulated by right wing extremists into being their mascot.

But he has no idea how to deal with this other than to throw a temper tantrum because that's how he's lived his entire life. He was a mildly popular media figure before, and everyone sort of laughed him off as ridiculous but inoffensive, and his devoted followers / yes men are only fueling the fire by pumping up his ego from inside their echo chambers. So this is completely new territory for him and he's not adapting well.

I think it's all real. And it's not that hard to believe when you consider all of the ridiculous self-centered assholes we deal with in our lives on a daily basis. They just don't usually make it to the Presidential primary.
