Silly season has returned for the 4th summer on /r/reddevils!

Most of you know the drill.

For those who don't...From today until the window closes, a transfer round-up & discussion thread will be made every day. In these threads, ANYTHING can be talked about. Any player, in or out, any transfer fee, anything!

Now, with these threads starting, this means that rumours submitted as separate posts will be removed unless they are from reliable sources!

Today's game got me thinking that Ibra and Rooney's position overlapped a lot imo. They both come down so there arent many players in. the box to get the crosses. Its better than last year, but we seem to not be in the box as much as we should be

At times Ibra dropped back to #10, Rooney dropped back to CM and nobody was anywhere near the box. It was like... guys?

Wouldn't attribute that to league adaptation b/c

a) he ripped spurs and played well against liverpool last season

b) it's still a pre season match

More a case of learning how his new team plays

Idk it was kind of fun how that played out for me. Like they were definitely dropping deep but it meant that lingard Herrera and martial were all buzzing around them making runs and linking up. Zlatan is a great creator and I think that he and Rooney both wanting to drop will give Martial, Memphis, Mkhi, and Rashford all a lot of opportunities to get in behind when they're playing.

It looked like kind of a fluid front 5 at times with the FBs picking their spots for added width and it really created some interesting looks. Just looked like we were going for perfection and not pushing the tempo.

If Pogba signs on Monday, reckon he'll play vs Bmouth?

Could almost see him coming off the bench vs Southampton and starting the third game against Hull. The guy will have had no pre-season whatsoever up to that point.

IF he does I believe that he'll most likely start the Southampton match as opposed to the Bournemouth one. Due to the fact that he's been on vacation for a while and Bournemouth is kind of short notice.

I reckon he'll probably come on with 20 minutes left in that game then start against So'ton, similar to how Van Persie started back in 2012.

Imagine if LVG was still our manager, we wouldn't see him until October so he could get 'match rhythm' playing in reserve games.

It's too soon for him to play against Bournemouth, with no pre-season, but he's in incredible shape so I don't think Mourinho will hesitate too much.

Doubt Fabinho. We have 2 RBs and like 3 players who can play RB as a backup. If we sold Darmian maybe, but i dont think he'll leave.

Fonte the same, after Pogba our incomings will only be after sales. Rojo and Jones would have to leave for us to bring in another CB imo

I think Darmian will be backup on the left because it's more than likely Rojo leaves this month. Idk how ppl expect Jose to see Darmian as a starter given his lackluster performances so far.

That means we do need another CB because Jones is too injury prone, and Bailly too raw. Someone more experienced.

Didn't something come out yesterday about Jose still wanting a RB and CB? I'm fairly certain it'll happen. Sticking to Fabinho and Fonte.

Fonte would be a ludicrous price for a 32 year old centreback. I think he's good but Southampton would want silly money if they even entertained the idea.

I don't think he's the right choice but I can't think of a different example right now, someone like Jeremy Mathieu would be a decent option. Experienced but wouldn't cost too much to be pried away from Barca. 75 appearances across two seasons for them shows you he's a decent enough CB but with Umtiti coming in he might not get much time.

That's the kind of experienced profile we should be looking at. Someone who isn't too old but won't cost the earth.

Didn't Fonte sign a 6 year contract this summer or did I imagine that?
