The best intro is no intro at all

Except when they put shitty overused electronic music to the background of the video and type everything they need to say in Notepad, all on Unregistered HyperCam

whispers "let the bodies hit the flo-"

NOPE.

Or this.

youve actually just fucking triggered me

Holy shit. When I read your comment I was like "What could it be" I played the video and I instantly got so fucking upset. I'm legit mad now.

What is that song? Why do i know it so well?

What the fuck

That was the precise monologue that occurred in my head when I opened that link. I genuinely have no idea why I know that song so well.

how DARE you to disrespect the YouTube national anthem?

AHHHHHHHHH i cant handle this song anymore.

You have no idea how long I've been looking for this

Part of me wants to downvote this because it triggers me so bad, but good job on triggering so many people with this

And they type slowly, keep pressing the wrong key and backspacing to correct it. Slowly. Very slowly.

"aych tee tee pee ess... colon ... foreslash foreslash... double-you... hang on, I messed up. Aych tee tee pee..."

How else am I going to find a cool hack for Club Penguin?

Game play screen shows character moving in right direction.

Cuts to shitty blue background to give some instructions

Cuts back to game play

Cuts back to more shitty instructions

Rinse and repeat until video ends except at the end they ask you to like, comment, and subscribe as if they put out high quality content

Sorry if I sound circlejerky, but just gonna mention Primitive Technology. His videos get frontpage every time and he's got no intro and doesn't talk over the what he's doing.

he literally hasnt said a single word in any of his videos aside from text that he puts at the end of the video explaining how long each of his projects took

He hasn't invented spoken language yet, actually.

Primitive Linguistics

I'm personally excited for Primitive Logistics.

He's focusing on production and not science. Gotta get all that early buildings.

No wonder he's still in the ancient era then.

Heyyyyyy guys, what's up? Today I'm gonna invent the phrases "hey guys' and "whats up".

He'll start his intros with hieroglyphics.

He used sign language to convey his messages, but he still hasn't realized that you need a facecam to do that.

Same with RoyalJordanian in the motovlogging community... He doesn't talk, just rides great bikes. and he is one of the most popular bikers on YouTube

He just shows excellent work. No games no gimmick.

Though I would've been okay if he had sped through his practicing for 5 minutes with a sling

At this point, no talking is a gimmick.

he's got no intro and doesn't talk over the what he's doing

and that's why he always ends up at frontpage

[–]Erotic_Hitch_Hiker 5ポイント6ポイント  (1子コメント)

I think its because of the, you know, primitive technology.

Yeah, I feel like people are looking over that part.

If cool shit is going on the front page, it's mostly from the cool shit.

And no music! I didn't even realize how big of a difference it makes, until I watched some similar video that insisted on playing music pretty much constantly and the song changed like every 20 seconds.

The ambient sounds of nature just fit the videos perfectly.

Little kids about 10 are the best, all joking aside. They're better at games than me. They're smarter than me. They know what the problem is already. They get straight to the point. No bullshit.

Like a good haircut experience.

you think gaming sites are bad? holy shit, check out the cooking sites. you have to get through someones entire life story to get a damned recipe these days.

What's wrong with "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this video. Goes straight to the point"?

Ill take a text guide with a map

Map?

I'll take a Gamefaqs FAQ/Walkthrough .txt file with an ASCII rendition of the title screen at the top.

Example: http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/588646-secret-of-mana/faqs/5614

Anybody else ever print those off as a kid and really piss off the librarian?

That guide sort of gave me an RPG erection.

reading is good.

Text is much faster for the reader to go through.

Video is much faster to produce

Easier to find certain points were you get stuck as well. I don't need need help for the entire level, just for this one freaking g door that won't open.

I'm sorry I don't understand your comment, I cannot read.

I hate that every time I think I've found this the page opens up to a video sitting in the middle of barely any text.

Sometimes text isn't clear enough. My mom was playing Uncharted 4 because I have the coolest Mom ever and she was looking for one of the collectible artifacts. Neither of us could make heads or tails of the instructions on how to get around this tower so I had to look up a video. Made perfect sense then. I also had to watch videos to figure out the racing paths in whichever Assassin's Creed 2 game they were such a big deal in because I suuuuuuck at racing.

Agreed. When hunting for witcher gear i prefer to just look at a written guide for the general location.

This where I go towards the middle/end of the video because you know the person is going to explain all the mundane details of what you are trying to accomplish

wadsworth constant

add &wadsworth=1 to the end of the URL

I love how this sounds like some scientific analysis from some historical scientist, but in reality is just a simple Reddit comment. Shoutout to /u/Wadsworth!

Not sure why this was downvoted - I'd never heard it before. Thanks for the helpful link and explanation.

explain all the mundane details

It wasn't a mundane detail Michael!

While mostly just showing them playing the game doing nothing at all related to what you clicked on the video for

I miss text guides/walkthroughs.

Video walkthroughs takes several minutes to actually demonstrate what a written guide could have explained in 3 lines.

Gamefaqs is still very much active. Also some game wikis have them.

IGN also do a lot of these

[–]Sailor_Gallifrey 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

I know people around here like to hate on IGN, but in my experience those guides are actually pretty good.

Except those gamefaqs ones where there's like 20 lines worth of text art. It hurts my eyes.

I really like IGN's walkthroughs. Currently using one to get 100% completion in Ocarina of Time for the 3DS (I've already beaten it myself a few times) and it's been really accurate so far.

They're hit or miss. The Yoshi's Woolly World IGN guide is nothing but videos of a guy playing the game, seemingly for the first time, and missing a bunch of the collectables.

I've never used video walkthroughs for any game. What could you possibly be searching for that isn't returning text walkthroughs in the results?

Sometimes i need a visual.

WTF are you talking about, there is no door there... [Youtube]... oh im in a totally different area.. oh THOSE stairs... ok i was wrong like 5 steps ago.

If you can deal with IGN's shitty site for a few clicks, their wiki guides are decent. However literally 90% of the site is wiki.

[–]Keitea 0

Especially for collectibles. It's easy in a text guide, if you know you have all the collectibles in such area, or just remember where you got the one you already possess, and get directly to the one you missed.

[–]PM_ME_2DISAGREEWITHU 81ポイント82ポイント  (11子コメント)

gee, I wonder if this technical problem has a step by step solution online.

googling

ok there's a few YouTube videos, I really just want a list of steps.

More googling, included "-YouTube"

a few forum posts from a few years back... All doing things I've already done... No one seems to think this these worked anyway. A few YouTube videos snuck in anyway

googling intensifies

at this point even forms are linking to YouTube videos

Fuck it. YouTube

"HEEEEEEEEEeeeeeey what's up guys today I'm gonna show you what to do if you have this problem. But first

skip

And it can be a real pain cuz all you wanna do is just

skipping intensifies

And before we get started I'm just going to

angry skipping

And that's it guys, good luck!

solves problem by throwing computer out a window

Post asking for the solution to the exact same problem you have

"nvm figured it out"

Makes. My. Blood. Boil.

Or forum regulars telling the person to Google it, and now that thread is the top result in Google.

I thought xkcd solved this problem by shaming everybody who did that.

I prefer written steps as well, perhaps with some images explaining stuff. In that way I can directly skip to the part that interests me and focus longer on it instead of skipping back again 10 times because the one frame that was relevant was only visible for 1 sec.

Written steps and pictures is how I found my way around Metroid: Zero Mission when I was a kid and had crappy dial up

Got it fixed now thx guys

WHAT WAS THE SOLUTION??

I've never found a single gaming walk-through channel that does intros in a way that's not irritating.

This would be acceptable: "Welcome to another episode of $Show, today we'll be helping you $ThingToBeAchieved. $Instructions. If you have trouble, see $WriteUpAndImageLinks in the description below. Thanks for watching, if you appreciated what I did, please like and subscribe, it really does help me out. Catch you next time."

Why is that so hard?

Instead we get the video game equivalent of SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY MONSTER TRUCKS CRUSHING OTHER MONSTERTRUCKS AT THE INSANE MATTRESS SALE ONLY THIS SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@@w

Even your simplified version annoys me terribly, especially begging to like and subscribe.

I feel respectfully asking for a like/subscription is an incredibly fair thing to ask for taking the time to make/edit together a video that outlines something for other people.

[–]nihilism_is_good4u 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

It's funny how real quality channels never ask people to like and subscribe (or do it at the end basically outside the actual video), yet all the shitty ones beg and cry and spam with annotations. Guess which ones I'm gonna subscribe to.

[–]Aewass 2

Many A True Nerd is awesome, he keeps the intro short and the video void of unnecessary crap.

THE PRICE GETS YOU THE WHOLE MATTRESS BUT YOU'LL ONLY NEED THE EDGE

I like VanossGaming's style of intros.

"ALRIIGHT!!!"

Video begins

......I make videos like this. I think lol

I do in depth reviews though not walkthroughs.

Could I get a link to your channel?

I suppose thats fine

I am still working on improving it here and there. And I have never said I am a professional nor do I have aspirations to be such a thing. I just enjoy making videos about the games I like :) Or dislike, as the case may be heh

Your acceptable intro is still way too much.

There should not be an intro. The people watching these videos are in the middle of playing a video game, just get straight to the point. If I want to know who you are and what your channel is, I can read your username and video description.

you forgot to include the location of the mattress sale

how am i supposed to get discount bedding if i don't know where to go on sunday sunday sunday

"Hey guys. If you don't know what this video's about, look at the title. With that out of the way, let's get started."

There, the perfect intro.

TFW you're looking for a guide but open a let's play because you can't read.

I know people that do this. Take 30 seconds to google and view comments to get your solution, or instead go straight to YouTube, spend a minute finding the right video, then wade through the trash inside it, trying to find exactly what you're looking for. Yuck.

True, but sometimes a video is better if you're for example trying to find a specific location in an open world game. Unless the text walkthrough has images, you're gonna get a lot of vague estimates of the location.

[–]darkwing_duck_87 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Go to the long hallway, face the door with the light, turn 90 degrees right, jump in place to climb up, find the fork in the path, take the one that curves downward slightly, up the stonework, through the broken gate, left, left, right, then go to the H shaped room and it's at the corner after you swim down through the opening after unlocking the door with the key from the long hallway, not the first one but the other one.

TFW you have to watch a let's play because there are no other guides

I love this set of videos for Super Mario 3D world that show all green star and stamp locations. They usually are less than 55 seconds and have no talking. Just straight to the game. Star, star, stamp, star done.

If only every game had videos like that

Remember when you could find videogame videos without some retard yelling at the camera? Good times.

Youtube Personality is an oxymoron. The popular ones just pander to the lowest common denominator. There's a reason people have to "pay their dues" in real show business.

I always skip to 1/3 of the way through any youtube instructional video, usually skips all the annoying bullshit

Is there anything worse than a 3 minute video to give you 30 seconds of information?

A four minute video to give you 20 seconds of information is worse.

Someone should make strategy guides for watching YouTube strategy guides.

"You know like, this part is kinda, a bit like you know, hard, you might struggle if you don't have hundreds of hours played like me HaHa!"

Heyguyshow'sitgoingkripparianhere

My favourite is "hey everybody, its (insert name here)" then the video commences with commentary that isn't obnoxious, and without shitty overused music in the background

[–]Keitea 1

Go at random point to the video

"Oh, no, at this point he got the thing I am looking for..."

Go before on the video

"Alright, I think I already passed this point..."

Go later on the video

Youtuber : And now I am going to use that object that I got before...

Go before

"But I already done that !!!"

BE SURE TO SLAM THAT LIKE BUTTON LETS SEE IF WE CAN GET TO 2000

I appreciate the well done intro, but if it's 10 sec long and you sound like you're trying to be cute I'll just not. The most annoying one I've seen lately is warcraft bible. Aside from just reusing The Lady Peon's and Nobbles material he just comes across so annoying. I'd like to watch some of his non plagarized stuff but I just can't.

It's not just games. Every. Fucking. Thing.

Need to fix your air conditioner? HEEEEEYYYY YOUTUBE!

How to format an SD card in Linux? HEEEEEEYYYYY, IT"S YA BOI HERE BACK AGAIN.....

How to make mashed potatoes? HEEEEYYYY......

It's the price we pay for free information, I guess. Gaming channels are the worst, but it's everywhere.

I had a wrinkle in a poster that got mailed to me. I thought I read that one can use an iron to get them out, so I looked that up on YT. First video... "How to get wrinkles out of posters" I think 'perfect! this is just what I needed' Nope. Just some douchenozzle talking about the different posters in his room and where he got them. His solution? Put them in frames. In the video you could still see the creases and wrinkles in his shitty posters in his shitty frames in his shitty bedroom.

I mean I just scour the wikis, if you read far enough into one it tells you how to do the same thing the video would take 10 minutes to.

Every damn time.

Beat option: Go to a non YouTube site for your answers. Most of them will actually have a description and a link to a YouTube video showing exactly what you need, no intro, no annoying commentators

Spends five minutes trying to find correct location in video

Have one million upvotes.

Do you guys really only find this stuff? I watch a bunch of streamers and YouTubers, and never have this problem. But apparently everyone in the world besides me hates it.

Remember to hit subscribe aaaand SMASH that like button okay guys

Forward. If they're annoying throughout, mute.

I prefer text guides, more so with pictures. I only resort to video walkthroughs when I really can't understand what the text is telling me to do.

These Lets Plays are YouTube cancer.

I remember the old days of watching NextGenWalkThroughs' straightforward vids of Rainbow Six and Half-Life 2.

Gamer BeerBaron would talk over his videos, but his commentary was always relevant and sometimes funny. Mmac's HL2 walkthroughs were silent, but the occasional text tips were useful and made the game a blast to play.

Edit: I remember having a tough time beating the final boss in Gears of War, but BB showed you how to exploit the AI and kill him in like, 3 minutes.

"Dont forget to subscribe and please subscribe and you'd better subscribe and also subscribe and if you have could just subscribe and then real quick subscribe and just hit that subscribe and why not click subscribe"

Yup. I'll tolerate about 10 seconds of intro-talk on the outside.

There was a study or something not too long ago that proved nearly all youtube video game commentaries feature the exact same linguistic styling and vocal inflections. Basically everyone trying to sound like some fancy broadcaster using the same emulated TV persona formula.

You know, there was just a thread the other day about how game hint books are still alive. Although personally I would never spend money on one, they are so much better written and more helpful than anything you will find on YouTube or Wikia.

That's why gamefaqs is still relevant, I would much rather read it than watch it.

Try looking for a video with less views or someone with less subscribers. Most of the youtube audience is younger kids and because of that the overly hyped/enthusiastic ADD personality is really popular. One of my friends is fairly popular on youtube and his channel grew to the millions of subs once he started acting like an idiot.

[–]Dont_Doomie_Like_Dat 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

"First, let me explain a little bit about myself and my rad YouTube channel!"

...

Lowko does it pretty well, actually. Gives a certain mood.

I mean - there's a slider bar you can use that allows you to skip this part with a single click.

Mute is your friend

"Hey it's your boy _____ here with another episode of _____"

You are not my boy, I just want to beat a single player level without talking to anyone.

I do solemnly swear that if I ever try the Youtuber thing, I'm limiting myself to a five second intro. "Hey everyone! Today I'm going to tell you how to <subject of the video>."

you also hate tmartn with a burning passion i see.

awesome, i like you already!

Yep. This massively annoys me with Youtube tutorials for things like Sony Vegas or After Effects. A video would be about a tool that takes all of 40 seconds to explain. And yet it's 12 minutes long, features constant 'umm' noises and introductions to their channel and reminders to subscribe at the end.

Also, in those cases, if your video editing tutorial doesn't have the umms edited out, it says a lot about your editing abilities. To the point that you probably shouldn't be uploading tutorials.

I feel like dark souls vids are the only ones that dont waste your time... berly any voiceing in the videos

You still got the pussy

That's why YouTube allows you to play the video at double speed.

I fucking hate it when that happens. If the person is too slow, I either look for another video, read a guide, or do it myself.

And that's why I resort to Wikia. And in terms for Fire Emblem (GBA ones though) games, I go to Whoisthisgit. Never talks (unless you watch very certain videos), doesn't do any special effects, just does informative videos.

finds a tutorial, seems pretty good

realizes it's CS:GO on the Xbox

kills oneself

Yeah. Fuck kwebblekop

Everyone wants to become the next Youtube star...so they think they have to have some kind of "witty" intro and hope everyone will go "hey, this guy is really funny! Let's watch this millions and millions of times!". Yeah...it's not going to happen.

More like I wonder if there is a text guide with maybe a few screenshots and all I can find is a shitty YouTube video that is like 20 minutes long made by some squeaky voiced twelve year old.

I hate this when it comes to recent popular events. If you wait over a day to search for it, you'll never be able to a find a video of the original thing. Now all there will be are reaction videos and shitty pretend internet reporters commentary shows.

The worst is when they start with. "What is up guys". What do you expect? A response in the comments? A response said out loud, are you in the room with me... It drives me INSANE

I used to make guides back in the day when they were actually useful, honest to god, it was like a ten second " this is my name, and this is what we are doing in this video" then it was into the guide, no one wants to sit through a thirty second intro of someone semi shouting their name, it's such a shitty trend on youtube.

You skipped the part where I jump through 2/3 parts of the vid to see if he eventually shuts up and looks for the item, concludes that he does neither, and then I redo my search with "no commentary".

PowerPyx might be the single best guide channel on YouTube, their single minded devotion to cutting the bullshit is astonishing.

Or those ones where you're looking for a specific clip and someone has just put it as the image for their video, then you click on it and can instantly see all they will be doing is talking about the clip you was originally looking for. That always fills me with rage.

Last one I watched had a boring intro, but the main issue was he didn't edit his video down so he had like 5-6 minutes of him running around doing other stuff with the actual thing the video was about sandwiched in the middle.

OK, maybe you don't know how to edit well, but that doesn't explain the extra stuff at the end after the video should have been over?

Shouting props to random user names, great way to loose the audience as well.
