I saw this on Twitter earlier:

It links to this post that essentially argues that Clinton is an anti-minority feminist candidate even if a better choice than Trump (read it for yourself, I'm probably not tl:dr-ing it enough).

Frankly, I didn't even know this was an issue among feminists. Do people here share that view? Or is it some isolated cases? As I took it, Clinton's nomination is a pretty big milestone for women. Not to say I'm opposed to discussion, which is why I made this thread.

I would be surprised if there weren't plenty of feminists who aren't really in to Hillary Clinton. She's a pretty controversial figure.

I wouldn't take FemFreq as any sort of representation of feminism et al since it's a whole spectrum of thoughts and attitudes, not a monolith.

Also, this is maybe a little rich coming from an organization run by someone accused of being a TERF.

If you're referring to Johnathan McIntosh, he is apparently no longer affiliated with FF and hasn't been for some time. I just found out a couple weeks ago.

I've seen a LOT of anti-Hillary stuff on Tumblr among feminists, queer feminists, feminist women of color, and I think that a lot of the reason for this is that the internet and tumblr specifically skews young and to these young women, seeing a female as president isn't as big of a deal as it would be to older women because to them, a female president has been feasible, and inevitable, even.

Article makes general claims about racism in the U.S. which are true, but after having read about the work Clinton has done in actively helping marginalized groups and apologizing for her mistakes (I think there was a long-ass post in another read which detailed numerous aspects of this throughout her career) I can't help but disagree with the premise that we 'don't need more Hillary Clintons."

Considering her accomplishments, she's a great role model. Obviously people should strive to be better, but I've seen so many young girls and middle-aged women admire her for getting this far.

I think this is also a good point. If you're young, seeing a woman President might be cool, but in the end, it's something you were expecting. In addition, if you're young, it's sort of hard to conceive just what the political landscape was like 15 or 20 years ago, so it's hard to forgive Hillary Clinton's stances that were less liberal than the world today.

It's just talk, nothing formal or editorial. Still kinda funny though.

Anita Sarkesiam is not the most popular with feminists herself, is the better point to make.

I was all ready to hear the argument, but it just repeats the statement over and over. Why does she think that Clinton is the enemy of marginalized women? She overwhelming has the support of african-american voters (those voters were hugely important in her winning the nomination), so this probably isn't a view that's very largely held among minority voters.

A rich, cut throat woman who has committed countless crimes against marginalized people should not be the stuff your dreams are made of.

So maybe I've been over-exposed to this type of language, but doesn't that seem a bit like a gendered insult (calling her cut throat instead of powerful, which a man with similar credentials to her would likely be called).

Honestly I can't disagree with most criticisms that come from legitimate places and aren't just "she won't help anyone because she's lying to get into office", but I do hope people turn out to support her anyway. Change is never sudden, especially in a country where 40% of the population will seriously support Trump

I don't know why there wouldn't be, considering Hillary is a controversial candidate for much of the population.

I think this tweet is kind of unprofessional though, especially as it's like the perfect clip that is probably going to be regurgitated by alt right "ppl" for like the next month. :/ it seems like it was supposed to be posted on a personal account to be honest.

There are some circles especially on Twitter that use TERF as an insult against just about any feminist who disagrees with them irrespective of their actual opinions on transwomen.

At the beginning of the race, people mentioned their disdain for another Clinton or Bush presidency. They feel the elite felt entitled to the presidency. This is just an extension of it.

Also, I doubt people actually look at candidates' records. Pick someone and ride em.

That's how you get Doctor Ben Carson, Kasich, Jill Stein fans.

Not this feminist.

So first Hillary only has the support of "low information" (minority) voters, and now somehow she's the paragon of white feminism.

I don't think the younger demographic are big Hilary fans in general, POC included(could be wrong), which is fine, but she's still infinitely better than any Republican, especially a demagogue candidate like Trump and that is not actually up for debate.

Hillary is obviously not perfect, but I'm absolutely thrilled that my 7 year old daughter will see a woman elected into office.
She's asked me before why all of the Presidents have been men, and it's hard to find a good answer for a child. She's a bit too young to hear that for the most part this is a backwards ass nation.

The source is a huge [citation needed]. Disappointing tweet from FF.

I'm open to feminist viewpoints critical of Hillary's record as Secretary of State, but if they expect to be something other than an appeal to emotion they do need just a little bit of meat in their arguments. It makes the dig at her legacy as First Lady look like a cheap shot.

Do better. :(

How much time do you spend speaking to non-white women who are feminists (I'm not accusing you of anything, just wondering)? Voting patterns don't indicate people's feelings towards her.

Yeah but people have been talking about this sort of stuff for years. It's only because of the election that it's actually being talked about more.

Also, do people really have to be reminded that criticism of Hillary is not support of Trump? I want her to beat Trump, too, but idolizing her really does no good.
