President Obama Declares Donald Trump 'Unfit' to Be President

President Obama on Tuesday in his strongest comments yet on Donald Trump said that the Republican nominee is "unfit" to be president, and is "woefully unprepared to do the job."

Speaking from the White House, Obama posed the question to the Republican Party: "If you are repeatedly having to say what Trump says is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him?"

The president's remarks come amid a disastrous week for Trump following his recent comments about Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of a slain U.S. soldier who criticized Trump at the Democratic National Convention.

Trump took their condemnation and started a public feud, implying that Khan's wife didn't speak because of Islam traditions. His comments led to Republican leaders, including House Speaker Paul Ryan and Sen. John McCain, distancing themselves from the nominee. However, Ryan, along with other Republican leaders, have not called out Trump by name in their defense of the Khan family.

Obama on Tuesday continued that while there have been Republican presidents he has disagreed with, Trump's actions put him in a different category.

"This isn't a situation where you have an episodic gaffe, this is daily (laughs) and weekly where they are distancing themselves," Obama said. "There has to be a point in which you say this is not somebody I can support for President of the United States."
