Rant on the Schweinsteiger situation (self.reddevils)

Before I say anything, I just wanted to say that I love, admire, and respect Bastian Schweinsteiger and for all he has done in his career. He is a legend in my eyes: a Bayern and German legend.

As I said above, he is a Bayern and German legend. Not a Man Utd one. So I really don't understand why people (looking at you /r/soccer) are claiming that because he is a legend and deserves to be treated and are hating on Utd for this. I understand people need a new reason to hate on Utd for obvious reasons but its the Utd fans spreading such an one-sided point of view that is irking me. Don't you people realize that this is only feeding the trolls?

All of that aside, lets look at the situation clearly. I am not really thrilled with the situation as I would still love to see Schweinsteiger being a success here at Utd but I'm not really sure what else Mourinho can do. Mourinho didn't buy him and he doesn't have to play him if he doesn't think he'll fit in with his tactics and he doesn't have to let him train with the seniors if he thinks it might affect them. From the looks of it, he is treating Schweinsteiger like you would any other player who is deemed surplus to requirements.

On top of all this, we are taking BILD's word on how this situation unfolded. An obviously biased German newspaper. Why not looking at it from an alternative point of view where Schweinsteiger was told that he wasn't needed anymore but he can stay fit by playing/training with the reserves until he finds a new club.

Also, lets not forget his wages. He earns 14.3 million GBP a year. Ozil earns 7.28 million GBP, Muller earns 4.98 million GBP and Neuer earns 7.62 million GBP. All of these players are key players for their first team so does it make sense to pay someone that much for just being a back up player? I certainly don't think so.

I also wanted to address the alleged preferential treatment Schweinsteiger received is also something to take note of. I think this is the most important thing to consider. If he actually is a negative presence in the dressing room, then I can't blame Mourinho for this. Imagine what Schweinsteiger can possibly do in the first team dressing room after being told he is unwanted (not saying he is a bad person. just saying that it is possible from anyone).

Last thing I want you guys to think about: would your reaction be the same if it was Fellaini in Schweinsteiger's place?

People in /r/soccer are acting like Mourinho came in after Fergie and told Giggs to train in the reserves.
As you said hes not played much for us, and hes only played ok - hes shown passion and I like him, but if he isn't in the plans then hes paid too much to hang around.

Where does this idea that he's so passionate for us come from? He cared way more about Germany than he does about us. He was gladly going to play for Germany when he knew he was already never fit for us and that resulted in us losing him for months.

I just got that feeling from watching him, when he was fit I think he gave everything.
Although we pay his wages - I don't blame him for caring more about Germany, hes played a hell of a lot more for them and they've had success.

I don't know where this notion comes from that /r/soccer thinks this is bad treatment? All I read was that this is common practice and everyone compared this situation to Balotelli, Ben Arfa and Khedira. The irrational shit talking of /r/soccer over here is fucking laughable.

The sentimentalism over someone who stayed one year wearing the shirt with most of his time on the injured list and the rest of it not being particularly impressive is absolutly beyond what I can grasp. People tell themselves beautiful stories and when reality comes crashing down on them, they just can't cope.

Moreover. And I'll agree that all of this might be pure speculation since we don't know what really happened... But. He is told he is not required at the club, that he is surplus, and he is allowed to look for a new club but yet he decides he simply doesn't want to leave and he throws a hissy fit? Fuck him.

Seeing this other thread about Zlatan earlier, people were reluctant about him because they felt he's the kind of guy who puts himself above the interest of the team. What is Bastian doing, here, exactly?

Let's not forget that his brother is quite dramatic with his tweets and what did he do? Let his brother know, knowing full well he is likely to post about it in social media.

Hardly professionalism on that part I would say. Yes he can't control what his brother does. But if you know your brother is a huge fan of yours, posts about stuff on Twitter a lot with regards to him/United/LVG or so, you don't tell him then.

This is completely disrespectful on his part to do it (brother) and let the laundry air in public just because he's Bastian.

Mourinho needs to be given full freedom to make us a success. If that's pushing out a 32 year old, 18 games a season, £150k/week legend of another team then so be it.

I saw someone on here the other day saying we should enjoy this, that if we're not hated then we are doing something wrong. The hate is definitely coming back and it's glorious.

I wouldn't worry about /r/soccer's thoughts on it.

Majority of the people who are "disgusted" in that don't really care about Schweinsteiger but just want to get a dig in at Mourinho or United. Some of it will be because, as you said, they're worried about us again but a lot of it will be purely because they hate United. And it doesn't really matter what /r/soccer thinks anyway, it's not exactly a place of level headed discussion.

Save the violins and the rant. Yes it's unfair how he's treated but jesus if he's not wanted and this is Mourinho doesn't want him then so be it. To be honest I think he does get injured too much so he should go. And let's not too feel sorry for him eh? He currently earns in a week what it would take me 8 years to earn. These people don't have the same worries like the rest of us.

Schweinsteiger hasn't done much at all to warrant being a United starter, let alone legend. If it's true he spent most of his time last season on holiday then that's disrespectful to the club. With that aside, he earns far too much to be a depth player that's injury prone, old and not in Mourinho's plans. If he goes it's a shame because his top-level professional career will almost certainly be over but by the looks of things it would be doing a favour for the rest of the team, which I will always prioritise over the wellbeing of an unnecessarily-purchased player who is past his prime

/r/soccer has gone to complete shit. Maybe it's because it wasn't United being the centre of everything but ever since Mourinho everything we do is terrible, every player is terrible & we're that bad that we probably won't make t4.

I still browse there but I changed my flair back to my local team just so I don't have to be involved in an argument every time I comment on anything United related.

I understand why you feel this is harsh treatment but if he's not in Mourinho's first team plans then there is no reason to have him training with the first team when all the focus should be on the first team players.

Unless it's causing real issues for team morale then unfortunately this is probably the best way to deal with the situation for the team itself.

Edit - Personally think he's a good squad player that we could utilise if he can stay relatively injury free, but I'm not the manager and I can't see what Mourinho can.

Not only isn't there no reason to include him in the training session of a team in which he won't be playing but, even more importantly, it's fucking counter-productive.

Something else to consider is that it is possible that he may create a bad atmosphere in the first team due to being told he is unwanted. I personally dont know how he is a person but just pointing out that this is a possibility.
