TL;DR: Nazi mods prohibit leaks in a subreddit solely dedicated to discussion of said leaks. Bans and censorship ensue.
/r/StevenUniverse is a subreddit dedicated to the TV show, Steven Universe. The show has always had a rocky, confusing airing schedule, but this month is especially crazy. For a full 4 weeks a new episode will air each weekday, spanning the entirety of the 3rd season.
Because new episodes would be aired daily, it was much, much easier for leakers to dig them out of the network servers and release them early. On July 25th, a writer of the show begged viewers to avoid leaks on episodes that would air through weeks 3-4, because of how plot-heavy they would be. As you could imagine, this just motivated viewers to actively seek out said spoilers instead.
To combat this, the mods of /r/StevenUniverse spawned /r/SULeaks to contain these leaks and quarantine them from the main sub. In a confusing development though, the mods created and enforced a rule in /r/SULeaks that prohibited users from posting or directing others to these leaks, which defeated the point of the sub.
At one point, the leaker himself has his comments removed.
Frustrated at how strange the rule was, /u/Unit-00 submitted a post criticizing how dumb this rule was and asked that the mods remove it. Moderator /u/ManSpider95 posts and stickies his response to this post, stating that users should use modmail and publicly voice their concerns.
After /u/ManSpider95's level-headed and reasonable response, another mod, /u/TherealGC13 takes it upon himself to substitute it with his own comment. Shortly after, the original post was removed.
After this display, stuff really started to hit the fan.
/u/RenegadeRuby makes their own post criticizing the rule, which is promptly deleted. He/she creates another post, this time criticizing the mods and their blatant censorship, which again is also deleted.
/u/Unit-00 shows up again to question the censorship. Guess what? Deleted. This time, /u/TherealGC13 shows up and accuses /u/Unit-00 of being a troll.
A subreddit, /r/TrueSULeaks is created in case the mods choose to continue banning leaks. /u/Unit-00 alleges that he was banned by /u/TherealGC13. The common sentiment in the thread is that /u/TherealGC13 is a power-tripping mod with flawed logic.
Throughout this entire incident, /u/ManSpider95 posts multiple comments that imply that he will get in trouble with the other mods if he continues to step out of line. Hmm.
Now we wait to see how the mods will handle this mess they created.
