I've noticed Paul Pogba has suddenly become overrated since news broke he's about to sign for United. (self.reddevils)

Especially on r/soccer I've noticed for years they've been saying what a world beater Pogba is and United were buffoons to have sold him. Every time he scored a goal for Juventus opposition fans were basking in the glory of how we let him go for peanuts, commenting that he will go on to be one of the best midfielders that's ever played. But lately the rhetoric is reversing and now he's suddenly not a great midfielder and we are absolute idiots to pay that much money for him. He was so overhyped when playing for Juventus but now opposition fans are under-hyping him because he might be playing for us soon. I have no point to this, I have just noticed it intensely lately. I hate the hypocrisy.

It's extreme on both ends. r/soccer are now saying he's worse than they previously did and r/reddevils are saying he's better than we previously did.

Personally I've always thought he's going to be absolutely world class. He gets better every season. I'm so excited if he signs, I don't care about the price tag. I just know that opposition fans on r/soccer used to upvote anything Pogba did with Juventus and rubbed it in that we let such a great player go. It must make them bitter that he's coming back to us. They're trying to downplay all aspects of the transfer.

There's really no inconsistency to claim that United were idiots to lose Pogba on a free, but he isn't worth almost 100 million pounds. I don't agree with the latter statement, but we certainly lost out on a lot (like almost 100 million pounds) by losing Pogba on a free.

I don't think that's true. Most people started calling him overrated during the Euros (including Gary Lineker). There was probably a minority who were saying it earlier than that but you never noticed them (maybe they got downvoted by juve fans). The people saying he's overrated might not be the same people who were overhyping him earlier and some may have changed their minds due to the fee.

They were mocking the idea of him going to a 'Europa League team' aswell. Literally couldn't fathom it even when DiMarzio et al first broke the agreement. A lot still refuse to believe it (all part of a 'publicity stunt').

To be honest, I am not all that excited for him. He was overrated while playing for juve but he still is better than all of our midfielders. Any player we buy becomes overrated however on r/soccer . Just look at their reactions towards Miki. My opinion on Pogba remains unchanged and i knew a lot of people also with the same opinion. So some of those who say he is overrated honestly think so. But a lot of the others are just hating that United are the team that "got" him.

How can the best U-23 in the world be overrated? Literally the current best player of his generation. Hilarious the number of clowns who say he's not worth 100mil. Have they not seen our midfield? He's priceless to us right now.
