I'd like to give you a tale about Dan.

A friend of my wife's family, lets call him Dan. Dan was married for 20+ years, and in the Navy for that long too. He had children late in his life, and loved them very much. He made great money, had a great retirement from the Navy and worked for the City.

Enter in Dan's ex-wife. Lets call her Stacy. Stacy had a spending problem. so much to the point that she got them in 50k+ debt without Dan even knowing. She had her credit card statements sent to her work, opened credit cards without him knowing using his SS# as a co-signer. Stacy also loved to drink. Her addiction to drinking and spending finally caught up with her.

Suddenly, Dan started getting calls about payments not being made to credit cards he had no idea about. So he asked his lovely wife what they were about. She lied and said she had no idea what he was talking about. Finally Dan pulls his credit report, and low and behold there are multiple credit cards in his name maxed out. One credit card from JCPenny had a 7000 limit and was MAXED.

Dan finally had enough of his wife lying, stealing and drinking he files for divorce. She tries telling the judge that he knew about the cards and that he had to pay for his half of the debt. However, she made the mistake of having these cards and their billing address as her work. She gets stuck with all of the debt.

You would think this is a happy ending right? Well no, it isn't. Dan has to give half his retirement and Navy pension to his ex-wife. He had to give her half of the value of their house. Instead of selling his house to pay her half, he just gave her more of his retirement. Dan is just happy the bitch is gone.

This weekend I go camping with them. Dan has a new girlfriend, and Dan doesn't give two shits about their future together. Found out she wants to leave him because "he wont get married" ever again.
