What do people think about Jesse Lingard's position at the club? (self.reddevils)

Just been thinking about Lingard and how he fits in this season. I've noticed that Lingard has been one of the most prominent figures in the club's social media and marketing campaigns recently, as well as a number change to 14 from 35; do you think these suggest Lingard is going to become more prominent in the side and not just as a right winger almost out of desperation like last season.

Obviously he doesn't fit in the starting 11 now we have Mkhitaryan and depth in the number 10 position, so how do you feel he will be used? As a work horse player in big games similarly to how SAF used Welbeck at times, or simply as rotation for the cup competitions and early stages of Europa?

Rotation winger. He's 23 and hardly world class. But his workrate is fantastic, he's a local lad, and he is capable of producing decent quality.

The local lad thing is a big deal. He may never be world class but he can certainly contribute. Plus scoring a worldy to win the FA cup with ten men buys him another season in the squad for sure. Add in just how important he appears to have been in helping Rashford settle in the first team and he becomes a very important squad member imo.

There are a lot of games this season to be played with Europa League, League Cup and FA Cup. Lingard should play in a lot of those games as well as Mkhi's sub or if we want to hold down a 1-0 lead in the last half hour. His defensive work rate will definitely be admired by Jose.

Decent squad player. Good option to put on against tired defenders in the last 20-30 minutes.

He'll also help Pogba settle (again).

Good squad player. Excellent off the ball and a great link-player. Not particularly decisive but will chip in with a few goals/assists.

For all we know Mkhitaryan might be awful for us and Lingard takes his spot.

Anyway, the beauty of depth is the competition for spots, and Lingard will be competing for both 10 and RM

It's more likely that Mkhi get shifted to 10, and Lingard plays on the right

Don't see Mkhitaryan being outperformed by Lingard. Better in literally every aspect and is also a workhorse winger.

Di Maria doesn't suit possession football. Mkhitaryan is the archetypical winger in a counter attacking system, which is most likely what Mourinho will adopt during his time here.

Good backup. He's definitely not good enough to be a starter in a Premier League winning team, but he showed last year he can put a good shift in. I wouldn't be surprised if we potentially sold him next year, but for now he's a good squad player.

Let me put it this way. If Memphis had done what Lingard has in the past season the circlejerk would be fucking off the charts. Forget his non-foreign name or lack of price tag to look up to and look at his performances on the pitch. As far as I'm concerned it's his starting spot to lose.

Can't see him starting ahead of Mkhi, Martial, Rooney or Mata across the front three. Should be a regular in Europa tho and cup games.
