I'm probably gonna get downvoted here, but seriously, just after reading a few comments on posts on the front page today, common and debunked gems of Republican propaganda constantly pop out. Stuff like:
"Calling a referendum and constitutional convention on the issue wasn’t the only option, and Howard rigged it only to ensure Australia would remain a constitutional monarchy" (this one's particularly bad),
"Menzies was bad, but not nearly as bad as Howard",
"the death of the Queen will be the beginning of the end for Australia’s constitutional monarchy ",
"The republic debate was the debate between good (ALP and Greens) and evil (Howard and the conservatives)" (I wonder where does Turnbull fit on this moral scale).
These sort of historical hallucinations are no longer taken seriously even in inner city cafes (and regarded as what they actually are: irrelevant), but continue to be spouted by some republicans in Victoria and are really just as bad as most excuses Tony Abbott used. Seriously, do people still believe this mythology in 2016? And if you do, sorry for ruining your circlejerk.
