I'm probably gonna get downvoted here, but seriously, just after reading a few comments on posts on the front
page today, common and debunked gems of Parliamentarian propaganda constantly pop out. Stuff like:
“Beheading the king was the only option and Cromwell did it to save lives" (this one's particularly bad),
“Cromwell was bad, but not nearly as bad as Charles 1”,
“The Battle of Marston Moor was the beginning of the end for the Royalists”,
“The English Civil war was the war between good (Parliamentarians) and evil (Royalists)” (I wonder where does Cromwell fit on this moral scale).
These sort of historical hallucinations are no longer taken seriously even in English academia (and regarded as what they actually are: post-war propaganda), but continue to be spouted by some conservatives in Britain and are really just as bad as most excuses Royalists use. Seriously, do people still believe this mythology in 1678? And if you do, sorry for ruining your circle jerk.
