Off-topic, but I think it's a good opportunity to ask someone who watches Fabinho week in/week out, how good is he? What are his strengths and weaknesses? Do you think he is better than Darmian/Tony V?

it's funny the very reason i looked for this subreddit yesterday was to see if Fabinho was leaving us and almost posted about it.

I am not going to lie, I have never seen Darmian play.

But when reading some of the top rated comments about Fabinho yesterday, I could not help myself to think "those guys don't know him".

You have to think that when Monaco signed Fabinho we were for most of the Monaco fans very disappointed. Come on, all the fans knew we were lacking a right wing defender for so long, and the best the new Monaco's Abramovitch could do was an unknown 19 yo brazilian?

I could write a lot about him but he's a top class player. We actually bought a new right wing already but I don't think it's really to replace him but more because Fabinho has been so steady in those 3 years that he we put him quite often in center midfield and we might want him to play midfield if we keep him this season. Is midfield his best position I don't think so but he's been really dependable I think we want him to take over the gap left by Toulalan as a defensive midfielder. He has way more offensive ability though. Don't get me wrong, Toulalan was an incredible defender in the middle but he lacked the technicality you want to start attacking right when he grabbed the ball.

Fabinho has that. The capacity to be a good defender but when he gets the ball he knows what to do with it. His technical skills are not the most flashy to watch as you would expect from a Brazilian player but somehow he manages to pass his opponent almost everytime he tries.

Ok my post is very long already. To resume, Fabinho will be dearly missed at Monaco. You have to think that right now he is third behind Alves and Danilo in the Brazilian team, and with the poor performances of Danilo with Real I think he will be the next Right Back of Brazil.

Of course he hasn't player in the big leagues yet but it's worth knowing that Mourinho has seen him train with Madrid. Apparently he is the one wanting the player. Ok Monaco is not the biggest team (note that it hurts me to write those words) but he's been the most played player last season for us, and I think he's always been the first one on the coach's 11.

I hope we keep him one more year but every Monaco fan has already started to move on, we are just not good enough to keep him much longer.

If he has to sign somewhere else I hope it will be for Man Utd because like I said the new team looks impressive and I just suscribed here, looking forward to the new season.

Thanks for feedback. I think we should sign him. He may not get a lot of games this year but I think he's one for the future. Let he and Darmian battle it out.

Asking the right questions is this man right here.

I don't think he's top class anymore tbh, was underwhelming last season even before the injuries kicked in.

Anybody who knows football knows Bastian is a legend. Most of us were giddy when he signed, understandably. Like Zlatan, he's a top player who you probably never thought you'd see in a United shirt.

But he's not the player he was and everybody knows that. When he was younger his game involved a lot of running, covering a lot of space in the middle of the pitch and constantly being in physical battles with the opposition. When you're 31 and you've played hundreds of games throughout your career, you start feeling the effects. He can't be that player anymore, the engine in midfield, he doesn't have the physicality for it.

He does still have class though, that was evident last season. There were a few games where he came on as a sub and controlled the tempo, bossed the midfield. Anybody remember the 40-50 yard ball he played over the top on the volley? He still has lovely technical ability, vision, and a good range of passing.

But that's not really what United need in their midfield right now, we need more dynamic players in there. Players who can outmuscle opponents, inject a bit of pace and drive forward with the ball, commit opponents before choosing a pass. Pogba is one of the best at doing that. Hererra's a bit like that, too. Box to box. Bastian, for all his experience and accomplishments, isn't that player. And also, despite a few opinions I've seen others in the sub have, he's not a fantastic defender. Definitely not what I'd class as a defensive midfielder. So if he's not an effective box to box, and he's not a holding defensive midfielder, what is he? If you're a Football Manager fan you'd probably liken him to the 'Deep Lying Playmaker' role. But there's Carrick, with his fantastic range of passing, regular crucial defensive contributions (the guy gets slower every day I know, but his awareness and positioning has prevented countless opportunities and probably goals), who very rarely seems to get injured even in his mid 30's, and he's a bit of a United legend in his own right even if he is somewhat underappreciated.

To conclude, I love Bastian and I think he has been one of the best midfielders of his generation without a doubt. But I think the current Bastian has little to offer our team and it looks like Jose has the same opinion. His experience and class are undeniable and many would argue those are valuable enough assets that we should keep him at the club. But honestly, I wouldn't play him either if I was Jose and I wouldn't want to keep him sitting on my bench either. I think Bastian could offer other teams a lot more than he can offer us, so I hope he moves on and finds one, and has a good fitting end to his career.

I'm disappointed as I always loved Schweinsteiger and bought his jersey when he signed for us last season. Having said that, Mourinho is entitled to pick his own side. I still am hoping they work it out as I think Schweinsteiger can at least be a good addition to the locker room and he could help the young players out when we play the B team in the early rounds of some of the cups. If he is going to leave, I'd like to see him go back to Bayern or maybe go to MLS, China, or Australia. I don't want to see him at another Prem club or another Bundesliga side (besides Bayern).

bought his jersey when he signed for us last season.

Looking back at it now, I should have bought his jersey while I had the chance. I really thought he would stay with us until he retires in 2-3 years.

He's a declining player with a worrying injury record. If that wasn't concerning enough there were multiple reports of him jetting off back to Germany at every opportunity last season which is hardly ideal either.

Schweini is a top class player and proved his worth on multiple occasions for Bayern and his country, that being said if he was to be sold I don't think we would miss him(sad tho), especially after bringing Pogba in. He still has a few good years in him and I hope he can find a club worthy of his name

definitely true.

although I have my criticism on his methods.

I am particularly surprised to see him at Manchester because he has not proven to be good on long term as of yet and Man Utd seemed to be looking for that after Ferguson.

Few years later I understand why the position might have changed but this is all very interesting to see.

I am def not a hater though, very interested to see if he's able to bring them back to top fast though...

Don't think Mou cares about the wages. Whether or not he's surplus to requirements will be due to his ability and other criteria you mentioned.
