This project will only be funded if at least $17,000 is pledged by .
The first Kickstarter campaign to keep a secret. You're going to want to know what we're making. But we're not telling... yet.
About this project
There’s not a lot we can tell you about what we are making and we realize how unusual that sounds. Why fundraise for a short film shrouded in so much mystery?
We promise, we have reasons… very good ones, actually.
We are group of filmmakers. Many of us went to film school together. You probably don’t know our names, but there is a good chance that you have seen some of our work.
We are responsible for several viral promos that have graced the internet over the past several years:
BATES MOTEL | A&E | 2013
AMERICAN HORROR STORY | FX | 2014
A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS | Netflix | 2015
Visual Effects Breakdown - American Horror Story: Freak Show
Visual Effects Breakdown - A Series of Unfortunate Events
3D Turntable of Lachrymose Leech CG model
We have received press in almost every major news outlet (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Vanity Fair, Entertainment Tonight, Huffington Post, Empire, Los Angeles Times, etc ) as well as trended worldwide on Facebook twice.
And while our promos have generated millions of views -- none of our work was ever official.
This is what we do -- we create memorable work based off beloved intellectual properties that effectively builds hype and competes with the quality of the studios.
It’s online guerilla marketing by young filmmakers, for the fans.
Our work has always appeared on the internet as a mystery. Upon the release of our promos, press outlets have been unable to trace the origin of its creation.
Fans find themselves speculating if what they are seeing is a cleverly plotted marketing strategy by the studios or truly a fan creation. In either situation, it sparks a debate -- a conversation that gets the fans excited.
That is our story… and our past promo work has only set the stage for WHAT IS NEXT.
And this is where you come in...
We are about to embark on our most ambitious project yet. It’s a six minute short film. The script has already been written. We’ve started the early phases of pre-production and have already planned out our production calendar. Key crew members are already on board, ready to bring this vision to life.
While we cannot publicly disclose the property that we are planning on working on next, we can privately and exclusively reveal it to our backers.
When our film makes its way onto the internet and people start speculating “is this official?”. You will know. Because YOU made it possible.
We are inviting you to come on our journey from the start.
But, we understand that all of this is a bit of a tease. So, to give you a proper taste for what is to come, here are...
- It’s a short film based on a beloved property from the 90s.
- It’s dark with elements of fantasy.
- The story is family oriented.
- There will be plenty of easter eggs.
- It will reunite you with some characters you have not seen in a while, in ways you have not seen them before.
Our team is made up of production talent that covers every discipline required to make a film. The names below are not the entire team behind this endeavor, but just some highlights. Our production crew ranges from about 15 to 25 individuals.
- Kellen Moore (Writer, Director): A shameless aficionado of Pop Culture, Kellen Moore is both filmmaker and proclaimed coffee addict. He has directed viral promos for "Bates Motel", "American Horror Story: Freak Show", and "A Series of Unfortunate Events". He also convinced the internet once that Butterbeer Oreos were a real thing (cause they should be).
- Christine Karaoglanian (Producer): Beginning her career at Fox as a production coordinator, she was quickly promoted to production supervisor for her last feature with them. She currently works as a full-time production coordinator at Legendary.
- Lisa Zieper (Producer): Lisa Zieper graduated Cal State Fullerton with a B.F.A. in film production and received her Masters Degree from Cal Lutheran. Lisa is currently a Post Production Supervisor for the Digital Artist Coalition.
- Carine Tomassian (Producer): Carine began her career as an Associate Producer for digital branded content before working in Motion Picture Talent at WME Entertainment. She currently works in development at Bluegrass Films on the Universal Lot.
- Jonathan Bruno (Cinematographer): When he’s not shaving his face with a razor-edged knife from Norway, Jonathan Bruno shoots commercials and promos for CBS, NBC, CW, E!, USA, A&E, and Lifetime to name a few. He recently wrapped season 2 of LOVE (Netflix), for which he served as 2nd Unit DP. Additionally, he's also shot motion capture sequences for numerous video games, including Uncharted 4, the new Spiderman and recently God of War 4.
- Michael Roderick (Visual Effects Supervisor): As both artist and technician, Michael Roderick has worked in the visual effects industry for over fifteen years. His past works include "Scream" (MTV), "American Horror Story" (FX),"Veronica Mars" (Warner Brothers), "Nip/Tuck" (FX) and "Transformers" (Paramount).
- Andrew Ducote (Creative Consultant): Andrew Ducote started off in the film industry as an actor, appearing on "Dave's World" (CBS), "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", (Warner Brothers), and "Can of Worms" (Disney). Andrew later transitioned to the role of Producer, producing commercials for "Burger King", "7Up", "Airheads", "M&Ms". He is currently a content creator for "Taco Bell".
- Jason Rostovsky (UPM): LA native horror aficionado Jason Rostovsky spent the last few years at Blumhouse Productions, before making the move to produce and create independent films.
Filmmaking is an expensive craft and all of our projects have one thing in common: an extensive art department and detailed visual effects.
Making the transition from thirty second promos to a six minute short film greatly increases our costs of production. As a result, we are unable to self fund this endeavor and are coming to Kickstarter for your help.
Rest assured: every dollar raised through this campaign will find its way to funding this film. The more funds we raise will allow us to increase the production value of this film, hire highly skilled crew, cast key talent, and manufacture unique props and costumes. Your support directly impacts the scale of this production.

Risks and challenges
We have a great team of experienced producers who are prepared to take on any and all challenges that come our way. The success of this campaign will directly affect how ambitious our short film will be. Our estimated goal to enter physical production October 2016. Our film requires three days of production and we will need to shoot days back to back. There are many factors that can affect production: weather, the cast, the crew, equipment rentals, insurance, scheduling, expensive gear and cameras… any of these elements could cause a delay of production.
Though we are currently seeking the best actors possible, we have not cast yet, and want to find the ideal talent to play (possibly reprise) their roles. If the actors we want are not available at the same time, we may have to shift production to accommodate them.
And though there are many risk factors, we are an experienced team who are determined to bring this short film to reality. We are prepared to be flexible and crafty with our budget in order to do so.
We take a lot of pride in the quality control of our projects and want to afford our visual effects team the timeline they need to create the best film possible. Editing and finishing is a lengthy process as well, but our team has a history of close collaboration and working together under pressure and stressful deadlines. We are confident that we can rise above this challenge.
