Silly season has returned for the 4th summer on /r/reddevils!

Most of you know the drill.

For those who don't...From today until the window closes, a transfer round-up & discussion thread will be made every day. In these threads, ANYTHING can be talked about. Any player, in or out, any transfer fee, anything!

Now, with these threads starting, this means that rumours submitted as separate posts will be removed unless they are from reliable sources!

OK so here's something that I can't guarantee is true but am sharing to fuel the muppetry on here.

Been at a wedding today. Got talking to the groom (who I didn't previously know). Started talking about sport, and inevitably United.

Whilst he isn't a die hard fan per se (South African, prefers egg chasing), apparently his friend's mum works for United and puts the final signature on transfer contracts (club secretary maybe??).

Anyway he said that after Pogba (an inevitability in case anyone is still in doubt), we are confident of signing a young Spanish player from Barcelona in the next 2-3 weeks.

Unfortunately he couldn't remember a name but he was adamant. So my Q to /r/reddevils is who fits the bill?

Of course he was fairly hammered by this point so it may be another nationality (or club... But definitely not Fabinho, I checked) but the prospect of a 5th signing remains...! Someone put a RemindMe for 3 weeks time.

Him and sergi Roberto are very good. SergI Roberto had a bit of a rough patch but last year solidified his stay. That rough patch is what Sampler is going through right now. He is touted as the next Busquets to an extent. Maybe not ready for Premier League first team, but then again you never know.

I don't see Barca letting Sergi Roberto go. With Dani Alves gone, he'll be asked to fill in at RB quite often and is very versatile.

Sergi Roberto won't leave. Last year was a very good year for him, as he showed how flexible tactically he is. Always had the spark (very highly rated from his days with the youth team) but just took a while to really shine, like many from Barça's academy

Have an awful feeling we won't sign him in the upcoming week, even if the deal gets fully agreed. He doesn't return from holiday until the 6th, which is Saturday.

It's a world-record deal, so i dont think the club, or sponsors, will be happy with a deal being announced without Pogba in Manchester, for pictures and interviews etc. Especially as our social media seems to love milking everything for all it's worth. They've already posted the replay of Zlatan's goal on Twitter about 6 times.

I think it may be announced Monday the 8th.

Yes i think it's definitely gunna get done. I think it'll be totally agreed, but I cant imagine the club would want to announce it without him there.

The social media/sponsors aspect is why I wouldn't be surprised if it got announced earlier. Just the agreement in place pending a medical and it gives the club and sponsors an excuse to drag it out even longer.

They get to go apeshit the moment it gets announced and it'd continue once he arrives in Manchester for the full unveiling. They'd get an extra week or two of marketing so I can see them doing it.

We only have two true DMs on our team. Carrick and Schneiderlin. If Mou want's to play 4231, its going to be tough. Herrera ins't a good DM, nor is Fellaini (though he played well there today). And shackling Pogba at DM would also limit him from truly playing the way he can.

Do you think most of the players mentioned in the daily mail article will be either loaned out or sold? I think they were: Fosu-Mensah, Wilson, Keane, Pereira, Januzaj, Bojack, Blackett, McNair

Fosu-Mensah is staying, confirmed by Mourniho.

Keane and Blackett will be sold.

Wilson, Pereira, Bojack will be loaned.

I'd like to loan McNair and Januzaj, but it looks like Januzaj wants a permanent move and Mourinho doesn't rate McNair.
