I may be in the minority here but I did not purchase the game yet. These videos sealed the deal for me and I just preordered through Steam because of what I saw. I would put forth the argument that these videos made a sale, rather than not.

I feel like he wants everyone to experience it individually and have their own unique experience. Which, they sort of will, but this isn't the past. People are going to watch other people play on twitch, youtube, hell I don't even plan on getting the game but I want to see some unedited gameplay of it for sure and will probably check youtube and twitch for it. Keeping everything so hush hush just seems dumb. The people who don't want spoilers won't spoil it for themselves, the people who want to figure out if this game is actually good probably will benefit from watching someone else play it. He seems disappointed, but really the leaks probably got them a bunch of sales.

I appreciate Sean's sentiment. I'm already sold on the game, so aside from the very first video (which reinforced how much I am gonna enjoy the hell out of this game) I'm not gonna watch anymore to savor it for myself.

But I also recognize that someone was gonna be first, and some people are gonna want reassurance that the gameplay and gameflow are to their desires. After all, this is what people seek out gamer site reviews for.

But I can wait, personally, for my own experience Aug 9th.

I've watched a bit and most of the things shown you'd already know if you've been waiting for 3 years. The fact that everyone will be starting on a different planet is why I'm okay with watching a little bit of the first gameplay. It's unfortunate that this happens 10+ days before release though, this week will be hard to get through.

I think I'll be looking up a bunch youtubers let's play first episodes just to see different starting planets after I've started playing myself.

What's the big deal about the leak anyway? This is what I've been waiting for all along -- ACTUAL gameplay footage, as opposed to the too-smooth, obviously edited footage Hello Games has been feeding us all along. This game has been hyped to hell and back and there's no way I'd purchase a game from a dev I've never heard of before without seeing videos of actual people playing the actual game -- especially a supposedly "indie" title at $60! Still not totally convinced but it DOES look good.

This is the age of information. Surprises are a thing of the past, and not something I care about. I want to see what the game has to offer before paying 60$ on it. I can tell from trailers that the devs philosophy is different, but that really isn't my cup of tea. I'm going to dissect the best source of information I have before buying a game. The devs have failed to produce much meaningful gameplay footage and has opted for vague hype fuel. That doesn't work for me.

I can understand why he is mad. Removing links is not going to stop it though. As a PC Gamer and now having to wait until August 12 here in USA anyways, what difference does it make for me? Gonna be watching people play it on PS4 for 3 days before i can even play it so it did not. YA, you can say wait till the 12th no one is forcing you. Ya true, but thats like asking a child not to touch anything in a candy store....By moving the PC date, Sean has ruin the first time experience for all PC players..Sure 99% PC players here will be checking out the PS4 players videos and photos....Still excited as hell!

Why should it matter at this point? The game was delayed over a month, and now they are silent about the actual release date of the PC version. If people want to know about the game already, then they have full reason to.

I have indeed waited years, since the first reveal at VGX, and one of the things i love the most about this game is that I won't be going into it knowing every little detail like almost every other game I play nowadays.

There's no way I'm spoiling this for myself now, I want that first day with the game to be full of wonder and excitement. This sub has kept me going over the years, reading about the game with all (well, some) of you, but I can't risk ruining this for myself, so I'll see you all in a couple of weeks.

Hey guys? I get the release date for PC is a bit of a fiasco, but come on. Sean is showing concern for the spoiling of something he and his friends have worked incredibly hard on, and all anyone can say is "WOW JEEZ YOU MUST NOT CARE AT ALL ABOUT PC RELEASE DATE HUH." Seriously guys. Get with it.

I understand the people who appreciate knowing a little more about the game, and this may be an unpopular opinion, but still, it must feel kinda shitty to put years of work into something, keeping it intentionally mysterious the whole time, just to have it spoiled mere weeks before the game releases.

Anyone remember Dean Kamen and "IT"?

IT was going to revolutionize the world FOREVER...IT was going to change how we do things...Cities will be forever changed because of IT...etc....etc...etc...

He hyped that thing every which way he could. He did as much press as he could to hype it. But now imagine Dean Kamen saying just to buy it out of the box for $5,000 (actual price BTW), without seeing what "it" is. "You don't want to be spoiled by what "IT" is!"

"IT" ended up being a Segway. It revolutionized nothing.

I get where Sean is coming from. This is his baby. I totally get it. But as a consumer, especially a consumer that has been burnt by video game hype before, ESPECIALLY as a consumer where $60 is a lot of money right now...this leak is a blessing.

I'm NEVER going to buy a game again that I don't see at the VERY LEAST the mechanics. I'm NEVER going to buy a game again without watching some other sucker waste their $60 first. And I hope Sean, HG and any other future game creator understands that a large group of the video game consumers think this way.

These videos sold the game for me, all of those cutesy, PR, peekaboo, hype videos didn't.

This seems to be a common problem with Indie devs that pour their heart into a game, it becomes very difficult to relinquish control and accept the reality that not everyone will interface with your vision exactly the way you want them to. He needs to let go at this point.

I would rather see a fan play the game and give his honest opinion without it being a journalists job. Review copies are undoubtedly in the hands of website content creators to play and draft their view and money generating articles. Anyone think it odd that a bunch of game outlets have been silent on the early gameplay?

i find it interesting that he makes a comment about the leaked video but he wont (or if he personally does not know he can contact someone who would) clarify the issue about if the pc version (us) is coming out on the 9th or not.

He's stated multiple times that some things have been kept a secret so they're a surprise when the players play the game themselves. It must be hard to see those getting out early, despite his efforts.

And to everyone extra salty about the PC release: Come on. Do you really think Sean is staying quiet on this to spite you? We don't even know if he knows anything to tell us. It could be a manufacturing thing that's completely up in the air, even to him. It's also entirely possible that he's not legally allowed to comment on the date. Hello Games has a history of being communicative, if they're not saying anything then there's a reason. Give the guy a break.

Exactly Sean. I've been waiting 2 years and this, 10 days before release, is the first time I can see raw gameplay of the final game instead of trailers with 2 second sequences mixing different builds of the game.

Even the latest Sony trailers have released footage from old builds(look at, for example, the UI of some ships in the latest trailers and see how some belong to the first builds by comparing them to old gameplay)

If Sean specifically says not to, I won't. I know I've never met the man, but his personality in all the interviews and demos has made me respect and like him and if he says it's a bad idea I trust him enough to listen. Hope anyone who does watch has fun though.

I mean.. I was just as tempted as everyone else, but honestly if I had put such hard work and dedication into making something that was special for everyone, I wouldn't want all the neat secrets and game mechanics shown off before it was time. Glad for those who got an early copy-- you're all lucky bastards :b but.. really, I think I'm steering clear. Nobody wants to have to wait the remaining week and a half, and as another person counting down the days I understand... but if y'all waited this long, a ten day wait isn't going to kill you.

If anything, do it for Sean; he and the rest of Hello Games have worked so hard to keep everything under wraps.

And yet he still hasn't clarified the apparent change in the PC release date on their website. Because this tweet is fine if the PC release hasn't been delayed, but garbage if it has, because what does he think is going to happen to all of the PC people if the PS4 players get to barrage us with info for three days before we even get near it? I just wish there was currently some choice other than maybe diminishing my own experience or abandoning the rest of the NMS community that I have grown to enjoy.

Saw the Games award stuff in 2013 and followed this sub since 2013/14 (whenever I got baconreader) when there were 3000 or so subscribers or so). You've been brilliant. No, I don't need to watch leaked footage. No, I don't begrudge you if you do. This is the game I invented in my head and then Sean Murray and his amazing team came along and made it real (seriously, I imagined a game using procedural generation like Elite, which would allow first person access to planets- you don't have to believe me). No trust in the amount of content the game can provide, eh? That's what I'm reading. That and a creator believing they can dictate how their art is consumed. I'd understand if they just pointed at contractual obligations with Sony or whatever, but this is just the reaction of a self-appointed "artiste" who would rather leave the customer worse off (at least some people who are looking to these videos to make their purchase decision) than see their oh-so-precious art compromised.

Look, I love what I've seen so far, but it's my decision if I want to spoil the game for myself. This video was moving me closer towards preordering - but ah well, guess I'll wait for in-depth reviews now.
