War approaches the Kingdom of Nerida. The king has fallen ill. The Princess needs a Hero to seek an artifact which could save them all.
About this project
THE PLOT:
The plot to Kingdom of Nerida is large and complex. There are 13 named characters in Episode 1 alone. Each character starts where they are comfortable, and must venture out to new areas.
Choice is a central theme to the series. As the characters continue their journey, they must make choices which challenge their thoughts and beliefs. A good character making a bad choice could cause them to become a villian, or one of their friends could die.
As the characters from different regions interact, the plot begins to unfold. Are the Humans truly the ones who desire war, or is there some greater power at work?
THE WORLD:
Read about how the gods created the land!

THE RACES:
Humans — The humans value intellect, technology, and progress. They cannot use magic, and in fact they fear how dangerous magic can be. They have rejected the old gods and started the Temple of the Sun.
Lia — Elven Race. Very capable with magic, and the longer their ears, the stronger they are. They
Uisige — A water-based race, born of pure magic which transformed animals in the sea. They have scales and feathers across their face. They have an incredibly strong connection to raw magic, and have power at the level of a demigod.
Rocha — A race with leathery, rocklike skin. They often have moss growing on them. Rocha are simple people, miners, and rarely like conflict, though they are physically strongest of the races. They have limited use of magic.
THE LANGUAGE
There are 3 forms of language
Common: The language which is commonly spoken across the land
High speech: This is a language spoken only by nobles and
Ancient: A lost language, known only to immortals and secret tomes.
This hymn is written and sung entirely in the ancient language:
THE MUSIC
We have an amazing composer as part of our team: Erik-Peter Mortensen. Check out some of the songs we will use:
OUR STRENGTHS
With a crew of only 2 people, we choreographed a fight, taught it to two actors, got costumes, made sword props, found a location, filmed it, edited it, colored it, composed music, and added a voiceover and visual effects, all in less than 48 hours, and with no budget, on a Sony Handycam.
If a two-man crew can do all this in less than 48 hours, with no budget, then just think of what can be done if we have some money to do a professional production, with a full crew.
OUR WEAKNESSES
Since the locations are in different places, we will not be able to film a lot in each day of shooting. This means it will take longer and be more expensive. On the plus side, it will be easier on everyone, as we won’t be shooting 12-hour days (that are often seen in the industry).
WHERE YOUR MONEY WILL GO:
There are 3 things that will really sell a fantasy film: Costumes and Locations, and Acting. Imagine a king, clad in exquisite robes, a gold crown with a Ruby in the center, with a huge emerald on the hand holding his scepter. He walks through an archway of vines, through a floral garden, until he finds a princess, wearing an exquisite gown, a silver necklace in the shape of a raven, and there silver rings on her forefinger. Of you can use all that to set a scene, your film has great footing.
Here's what we need:
Costumes. $3000 Costumes are essential, and a good costume can cover for even a bland character.
A realistic looking costume can be had for about $200. This includes props and ascessories. There are 13 unique characters in episode 1. We would need 15. Fortunately, we can reuse these for future episodes!
We would like to spend $3000 on our costumes, but the more we have, the better it will immerse the viewer in the world. We can do fantasy and have every piece custom made, or we can clothe most people in Forever 21 (No joke). We have some basic pieces already:
If possible, we would also like to hire someone to apply prosthetics for the more fantasy and monster-inspired creatures of the world. Here is a test that we did ourselves:
Location fees: $3000 When people think fantasy, they think grand, majestic, expensive locales. This does not need to be the case. Since we are not profiting from this webseries, we do not need to pay location fees for many beautiful state parks.
Take a look at our photos to see some of the great locations we’ve been able to find, just by walking around!
However, there are some locations which must be paid for. For Example:
We can rent out the grounds of this FULL castle for $3000, which will allow us enough time to film what we need.
Check out our gallery for more location photos!

Transportation and boarding. $2450 As a rough estimate, transportation and boarding would cost $50 in gasoline and $300 in boarding per shoot day. We’d plan 7 shoot days, so that would be $2450. In some cases, like cabins, we are able to board cast/crew in the actual location.
Actors: $1300 (bonus) We have a great pool of actors, many of whom we will be featuring in the upcoming weeks. Dialogue needs to be spoken well, the characters need to be physical, and you need to see emotion on their faces. Actors need to be paid, so they can pay rent, and eat food. $1300 will pay them 100 each for the episode, but we’d like to be able to pay per day, ideally.
Crew: $1400 (bonus) Our crew is going to be fairly light, but we have to at least pay some people $100/day, because they would be risking their equipment.
Music $1000 (bonus) We have an amazing, berklee-instructed composer as part of our team, Eric-Peter Mortenson. He has written us several songs already for no pay. Check out some of our songs here:

7. Visual Effects: $1400 (bonus)
Industry professionals are a huge resource that cannot be discounted. Someone who is really good at their job is worth spending the money on. If we can do great things with 2 generalists, think what we can do with specialists! A standard day rate is $700/day, and 2 days should be enough to do what we need. If we cannot get the money for this, we will do what we can for effects ourselves. Here is an amateur demo:
Concept art for opening sequence: $700 We hired an amazing artist to do the art for our opening sequence (video at the top), so we can really build some excitement around our brand!
Editing: $0 Because we will be doing it ourselves, editing will cost nothing! Yay! This is actually a huge cost-saver
Equipment: $0 Thankfully, we are able to pull in favors and get the large majority of our equipment either for free, or as part of somone’s kit. This is a HUGE money saver.
Feeding People (bonus): $410 People need food. If you don’t eat, you die. Estimating 7 shoot days at $10 per person, about 6 people per shoot, that is $410
We usually like to cook and bake for our cast and crew. It keeps them motivated and productive.
Rewards: (variable). Finally, we need to give back to you all! That’s why we tried to spring for rewards which people would genuinely enjoy. We already have many of our rewards shipped to us, and have put a large investment in them, already, so we can show them off to you all!
As you may have noticed, the totals here are more than our goal of $6000. That is because $6000 is the bare minimum we need to make this work, if we get people to work for free, do the visual effects ourselves, and pay out-of-pocket for other costs. We are very passionate about making this work, but we don’t want to bankrupt ourselves in the process. If we could exceed our goals, that would make us very happy!
OUR REWARDS:
I AM POOR, BUT STILL WANT TO HELP!
We love when people contribute to our campaign, but more than that, we love when people spread the word!
Talk to your friends about it! Fantasy should be fun, and is something people enjoy together!
If you want to be more digital: use the “share” buttons above to share to your social media!
Risks and challenges
We already have our rewards shipped to us, so it will not be a challenge to ship them out to backers.
We have enough locations, and backup locations that if we are unable to shoot at one, we can change.
Our biggest risk is that a cast member will not be able to continue filming beyond the first episode, be it from injury, death, or other. If that happens, we would need to recast and either reshoot some scenes, or explain via story why the character looks different.
