There were lots of groups that were anti-interventionist with regards to WW2 until we were attacked by Japan. There was a lot of money to be made off the war if the United States had stayed 'neutral'. However, we wouldn't have gotten the political spoils.

As my great grandfather told me, a man who was very conservative until the day he died, "I didn't want to see us go into a war in Europe. If those damn dirty Japs hadn't bombed Pearl Harbor I'm not sure we would have done what we did." Great grandpa didn't like the Japanese.

Would the current ACLU be against German intervention? It's hard to say. On the one hand they abhor violence, but on the the other they lobby for equal rights. And we all know how the 3rd Reich felt about equal rights.

My grandfather was a conservative republican and frequent shitposter in the letters to the editor section of the local paper (all they had back then). He was very much with FDR and the interventionists on this issue, judging by his published letters. So you're right, it transcended the liberal vs. conservative divide.

Maybe we would have had a nuclear war and many more would have died. Maybe nothing would have happened pretty hard to be certain about it.

Our Timeline so far could have been much much worse and many times we have been pretty lucky. So I guess it comes down to comparing a known ok timeline to a unknown timeline.
