Wrong title in the first thread, I'm fucking tired. Already deleted it mods, don't worry.

/u/tocitus and /u/georgie_best asked me if I could do a /r/soccer version of this thread. Ironically, this might not be the best time for it, since the confirmation might be coming up... Anyway, after a few hours of research here it is guys.

P.S. The “Pogba is overrated comment karma” thing is just a sum of upvotes and downvotes of all the comments in that thread that said that Pogba is overrated. It goes down when someone says it sarcastically.

To be fair who the hell knew for sure how Martial was gonna turn out. But lots of people definitely were way too critical before he'd even kicked a ball, what a waste of money, never be good value etc.

If we pay that much for a 19 year old someone is going to have done their homework, have a bit of faith in LVG & the club. The amount of negativity on this sub was crazy, never mind elsewhere. When he scored that goal on his debut it was one of the most amazing fucking moments.

Nice to see how much people's opinions are affected by his association with us. when he was seen as rejecting us people couldn't wait to say how great he was, what a mistake we'd made letting him leave etc. Even down the the other day when madrid were reported to be back in for him people stopped mocking his potential fee and instead mocked the chance united were being 'played' again. it's fear and hate towards united from other fans and i love it. The more they hate us, the better we tend to be doing. Let's give 'em something to hate!

I remember reading somewhere that Barca were Pogba's preferred choice to move to. However, prior to this transfer window, I think the only teams he'd have been receptive of a move to are Barca, Real, Chelsea and PSG. I don't think he'd have ever joined City due to him being a former Red, however fledgling those ties may be.

It's not actually Jealousy, it was just that a lot people in /r/soccer don't care about other leagues and their players outside of 2 or 3 from Spain, and Germany. Once Pogba rumors started floating our way, the people who previously were quiet decided that they were experts on him.

/r/soccer went through the 5 stages of grief:

  • You'll never sign Pogba LOL as if he's going to a team in the Europa League
  • United are disgusting with their money, ruining football. They won't get him. He'll stay. Fuck them.
  • If he goes it will be for a world record. They'll get mugged right off with the fee.
  • He's ovverated anyway and I never liked his shit haircut. Sissoko is better.
