What makes Pogba so good / desirable? (self.soccer)

I'm reading that PSG, top 4 EPL clubs, Barca, Madrid (and a few other clubs I'm forgetting) are all after Pogba. I've seen him play only rarely. So, I'd love to understand from those who see him more often what they think makes him so desirable for the top clubs. Those clubs can get almost any player in the world. Is he really that much better than any other central midfielders available to those clubs?

First of all his age and perceived potential, he's still only 21 and he's already considered one of the best midfielders in the world and the ability of changing a game on his own when he's on his day.

He's quick, technical and has a strong physique, his weakness is his defensive game.

I'd add to that his fantastic vision but also the fact that he tends to play too easy and to do a little bit too much when it's unnecessary (Deschamps pointed it out a few times after France games).

That will go with age. Remember Ronaldo at 21? Dozens of unnecessary step overs and tricks, and players just mature out of it.

Also Neymar right now. He had a few games this season where he did incredible, then had a few weeks where he did useless skills and dribbles and lost possesion too much. He's doing that a bit less and has started to perform well

It seems like Cristiano has been tutored really well by people who know a lot about the theoretical side of the sport.

He's the same player with the same technique and all, but he has literally cut out everything superfluous and is the extremely efficient and dangerous forward we see today.

The only reason his defending is considered weak is because people still see him as a defensive midfielder because of his physique. It''s pretty decent compared to any other top box to box or attacking midfielder in the world.

Vieira was by all means a box-to-box midfielder though. He was always partnered with someone more defensive when he played for us.

They weren't far off each other if you look at their season stats on their wiki pages. Both I would say were scorers of occasional incredible goals, but not regular goals.

Vieira was considered a defensive midfielder because he was so aggressive. He was a box to box, but he still dominated the midfield with his physique and tackling and got loads of cards.

He got 2 red cards in his entire career. And even yellows were just at 139 in 555 matches.

This is not loads of cards. Look at Sergio Ramos if one wants to label someone under the loads of cards category.

He is number 11 all time for yellow cards in Premier League. Only two above him had a lower minute/card-ratio.

A player like Ronaldo for example who is not even a proper midfielder has 6 direct redcards(9 total) and 82 yellows.

Thanks! Do you have any suggestions for any game where it was "his day?" I just want to see examples of how he can change a game on his own. He seems to be the most desirable central midfielder at the moment. So, there should be some games where he showed why.

When he first joined, really thought why the heck we would bring a kid in who looks like a drunk giraffe on roller skates. Lanky, thin, did not seem coordinated at all. Sure enough, he developed and boy did he develop fast. Passing, making those long legs work in his favor and of course that shooting ability. It's like Viera and Zidane had a child somehow. The work rate he picked up from Vidal while the silkiness if not born with, rubbed off from Pirlo for sure. What makes it even more incredible is how confident the kid is, at 21 he seems like he has been playing this game for decades and he is nowhere close to his ceiling. I predict he will Ballon D'Or winner in the next 3 years, easy and as a Juve fan, I am ok with selling him. We bought him for 800K, selling him for 80 mil, making us 1000% return, not a shabby piece of business if you ask me. EDIT: Forgot how to math, an extra zero there please.

That game vs Udinese we saw what Pogba can do if he is given space. Plus Conte had to rotate our MVP midfield so I knew there would be more of him to come. Other than his long shots he can roam the field and open space for Tevez and Morata. I really hope hes available for the second leg in Madrid and Pirlo is dropped for a Marchisio, Vidal, Pereyra and Pogba midfield that can explode in counters.

Nah I doubt it. I can't see him pipping Neymar, Hazard, Messi, etc. unless he has a crazy year and propels France to the Euros which isn't impossible but not likely either.

He'll definitely challenge Neymar and Hazard for the Ballon d'Or, those three will probably be considered front-runners for many years to come, maybe alongside Bale if he gets his act together, but that will only be once Messi has aged and degraded, so probably not within the next 3 years.

Strength, pace and physical qualities don't usually come along with excellent technical abilities. Pogba has both and he's word class.

Fantastic long shot, great passer, good workrate, he's a box to box midfielder who often likes to go forward when he has the chance, he makes things happens, the defensive side of his game isn't bad but it could improve, once in a while he can still be seen jogging around without doing nothing.

A dream team midfield would be him, Thiago, and Hojbjerg. But dreams like this rarely come true.

Honest to God. He's the closest thing I've seen to Yaya Toure. He's Huge. Tracks back. Has good height in the box, can shoot from insane distance, and can hold the ball up. He's like last year's Toure except younger and not as disciplined...YET.
