With the Pogba transfer being finalize anytime soon. I'm curious to see what everyone's opinions are, concerning the starting 11. Your prefer line up to what do you think Mourinho will put on the pitch.

This. I've been seeing this one a lot when line ups are discussed in here. Just one thing : why Herrera over Rooney?

Jose said he won't play Rooney as a CM. Plus Herrera is a better CM than Rooney.

Jose will 3000000% play rooney in the number 10 role. I'm not even sure why this is up for debate. Mou said he's not going to play him as a centre midfielder because that's not his position i.e. he will be played at number 10 which is his position. I don't understand why people are so convinced rooney's not going to be in the starting 11, he's the team captain ffs

I see..but that leaves Rooney stranded. Rashford for Zlatan, and the #10 place is pretty stacked already. :/

Well if we're being brutally honest here, Rooney would most likely be sold if it weren't for him being captain and having such a big influence over the dressing room. The only thing that Rooney really offers that can't be replicated by another is leadership, and even that is debatable.

Agreed with most of what you said, though I'm still unsure on the leadership thing. You could see that despite all the criticism he faced last year, he came back with a bang in 2016 and literally carried us to the FA cup final. I guess I'd be really sad to see him phased out, tbh. But then again, there are some things you can't change...

Yeah, nah Fellaini and Martial did that. I won't lie though, Rooney played a big role in Mata equalising in the final and he did start 2016 off with a bang. However, he still faded off after that. We're yet to see whether his 2016 start was an anomaly or he really did find his form again.

He's a better player. He's more mobile, once he gets the ball he always looks to attack, a better passer. Also he's actually a midfielder whereas Rooney is only one because that's all he can play at this point in his career

Yeah, I'm afraid Jose will play the latter but hopefully will drop it after some games. 4-2-3-1 won't bring the best out of Pogba and... well, I don't think "the best" can be brought out of Rooney anymore

He may not be a good no.10 but in terms for the sort of 10 that Jose wants Rooney fits that more than lets say Mata, who's a better 10

My issue is that I think the team would be better with a 3 man midfield. Schneiderlin holding thus allowing Pogba and Herrera more freedom. I'm worried how much freedom Pogba will have as a true box to box in a 2 man centre mid.

Smalling is great and constantly improving, and Bailly is young and should be full of potential. I think we'll be fine at CB.

After that? Jones is not reliable. Rojo is pretty bad. Blind is not a center back. Remember that Bailey will be gone for a month around January when we will have lots of matches. If Smalling gets injured /suspended that time we are in big trouble.

At the end of the season, I hope that Rooney will have been phased out for Herrera more, and TFM finds a place either at RB or, my preferred, CDM.
