This'll be the second Ubisoft adaption Jake Gyllenhaal has been in.

B-but...the Ubisoft Cinematic Universe! They'll have to reboot Prince of Persia for the UPlay Assemble movie!

[–]Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow 67ポイント68ポイント  (19子コメント)

Okay guys, now you've sat down, we're going to need you to drive over to the Ubisoft Cinema to watch this movie. Sorry, you can't bring any popcorn purchased outside to Ubisoft Cinema.

Sorry, you can't bring any popcorn purchased outside to Ubisoft Cinema.

That's funny, in our cinemas same rule applies (even if Ubisoft popcorn isn't being sold yet)

[–]SLOTH_POTATO_PIRATE 57ポイント58ポイント  (14子コメント)

I bet Ubisoft Popcorn would have a lot of unpopped kernels at the bottom of the bucket.

it would look like a full bag of buttery fully popped popcorn when you are in line, but after you purchase it you realize its a bag only two thirds of the way full. also the popcorn is stale, and getting butter to put on it costs almost as much as another bag of popcorn.

and you only get salt if you pre-ordered

salt was exclusive to gamestop, you get that weird powdered cheese if you pre-ordered from wal mart.

I would think that the box would be preorder exclusive, but all the people who bought it except for diehard fans get salt. By the truckload.

I bet it would come with some guy's dick already inside it.

[–]Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yeah but they don't wait until after you bought popcorn to tell you that and force you to use their specific cinema to watch one movie.

They just need to edit the End of prince of persia. Gyllenhaal wakes up in an animus in infected New York.

The Ubisoft shared cinematic universe is Source Code II: return 0. All jake Gyllenhaal roles are just extensions of his character from source code. He is everyone.

It's a quantum leap reboot!!

Pretty much the whole plot there.

So... 2 hours of Jake Gyllenhaal shooting one enemy to get a new cardigan.

To maybe get a new cardigan. That's what makes it so exciting!

Dude... I preordered Division and got season pass... too soon man, it still hurts...

This is why yet again we must remind everyone to never pre-order a video game.

Hey I pre order..by putting it in my gamefly Q a few months early.

Gamefly... now that is a name I have not heard in a long, long time.

I got the season pass and never played whatever came after the release. I went over to their subreddit and it's just a dumpster fire lol.

I quickly returned to Destiny where people are nicer than the world of the Division.

People shit on Destiny for having a lack of story/variety.....but The Division is much much worse.

I apologize to everyone for helping fund this movie :(

As a denizen of the dumpster fire send help

Lol. You are so right. Premis of the game (and the single player 1-30 grind) is actually pretty good, hence the movie will be good too

He wasn't saying that the movie will be good because of the game that it's based on. He's saying that the movie is going to be terrible, but even that can't be worse than the terrible game that is The Division.

It was a great game just lacked longevity. I had a blast for about the first month.

That is absolutely garbage replay value for a game that marketed itself as an MMO Action RPG.

The game has been out for like 6 months, is massively unpopular, has no gaming history. Why is it being made a movie?

Edit: I am being serious here, do people actually want this game to be a movie, or is this just the paid Ubisoft shills coming out of the woodwork?

Because Ubisoft has started producing movies, and they apparently haven't found anything better to follow up on Assassin's Creed.

"Tom Clancy's RAINBOW SIX"

With Harrison Ford as PRESIDENT JACK RYAN!

No, no, that sounds good.

That said, I'd rather have an adaptation of the original book, which I feel would be better served by a TV miniseries, and Jack Ryan isn't involved in it.

Without Remorse and Rainbow Six both need to be made into miniseries. On a network that will do it right though, like HBO.

Hopefully, directed by someone like John McTiernan. I want him to have his comeback and based on how great Hunt for Red October was, a Tom Clancy miniseries would be amazing.

Fuck that. David Lynch's Rainbow Six

[–]Skraff 2

Realistically Paulie Shore is the only man with the vision to pull it off.

The best Clancy book to turn into a miniseries would be Red Storm Rising IMO. Besides, there was already a Rainbow Six movie, it was Moonraker.

i just finished Red Storm Rising a few weeks ago. So damn good, Clancy was the master of fictional military writing.

As long as Without Remorse is on Netflix or HBO - I want raw grit and fury.

I'd prefer a movie, though. There's always been talk, but nothing so far.

Without Remorse is my favorite Clancy book. The intense action and anticipation, how he goes full on Batman on some fools. I need to read it again soon!

Without Remorse is such a fan-fucking-tastic read.

Rainbow Six is one of my favorite books. Everytime I read it I wonder why HBO or Netflix hasn't made a proper mini series.

Rainbow Six suffers from the problem of being a work of fiction about terrorism in a pre-9/11 world. The story seems quaint and outdated. If only you could fight global terrorism today with a crack squad of about a dozen multinational commandos. It was an excellent book for its time, though.

Yes he was. Rainbow Six followed Executive Orders, where he was president.

Question...Do filmmakers need ubisoft's permission on Rainbow Six? Or is that fall under the clancy estate sort of umbrella?

    Falls under the Clancy estate.

Ubisoft is licencing the name from them so any movie they want to make they would have to pay for the Movie rights as well.

They have a Splinter Cell movie with Tom Hardy in the works actually!

I've been hearing about a splinter cell movie for over ten years. Until I get a trailer, it just seems like a fever dream.

Same goes for the Metal Gear Solid movie.

Wasn't there one released back in like 2008 called Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots?

That movie would make for a very good video game, by the way.

    Got jokes, huh? Joke boy

Tom Hardy as Sam Fisher doesn't seem right to me. I've always pictured Jim Caviezel playing the role. He pretty much does all that Splinter Cell shit in Person of Interest and he has the look too.

Didn't Leo persuade him to quit to take a part in The Revenant?

He quit that project I'm pretty sure, didn't he?

They could just release the same Assassins Creed movie next year with very little changes made. It's the Ubisoft way

Whatever happened to that splinter cell movie with tom hardy?

Also, I just replayed assassins Creed 2 this weekend for the first time in years. And let me just say I absolutely love, LOVE that games story. Holy shit. The Desmond part in the beginning is boring but you forget all about it as soon as you step into the animus. And then your swept into the life of ezio, who is charming and badass. The entire part leading up to ezio getting the assassin outfit and leaving Firenze is so thrilling to me. You play through this man's entire life, growing with him for years and years. Ezios story is awesome. it would make a great movie in of itself. But then at the end of the game shit hits the fan and your mind is blown, and suddenly you remember modern day. Suddenly you're actually interested in Desmond's story and are genuinely pissed off that you don't get to see more. Perfect cliffhanger ending that blew my mind as a kid. I fell out of video games basically at the same time I first played ac2, so i havent played anything since. I dusted out the old Xbox a week ago, and I can't wait to play brotherhood.

At least they can't really screw up the story. The Division barely has one...probably cut to meet the release deadline along with 1/2 the other crap they cut out of it from the initial E3 reveal.

Because a action/thriller movie about a bio-engineered global pandemic would probably make for a good summer movie.

Yep - take away the ridiculous bullet sponge nature of the game and it's just a pretty good post-apocalyptic action thriller in a decently built world. I'd watch it.

Hopefully they include the part where the protagonist goes into the DZ and kills his fellow agents in the hopes of acquiring some gear that will inevitably be a let down also.

Naw, a forty minute action sequence of 8 people doing dive rolls, shooting at each other with everyone popping life support every 45sec resulting in nobody dying and then everyone giving up due to all ammunition being spent sounds more appropriate.

The final "sequence" just ends with a random jobber who comes out of nowhere from around a corner and one shot's the entire 4 man crew with a basic low tier shotgun.

And then escapes by mobile covering through a wall.

This fucking glitch is why I stopped playing. Nothing more annoying than a guy killing you from behind a wall.

The only think I care about is they don't give us the sjitty cliff hanger ending from the game

This is actually a good point- a lot of adaptations seem to either fail because they are too faithful to a bad source material or not faithful enough. A well designed world could allow a good director to make something great without restricting them to poor material.

I hit the "I'm bored, this feels like a chore" mark a couple months in and in that time I'd found almost every echo and phone recording. For all its other faults they did a really good job of creating a terrifying world where normal people with normal problems suddenly find themselves committing crimes to survive or being the victims of those crimes.

The desperation and resignation in some of the people hit pretty hard. There was a woman that came out to her mom via voice mail because she didn't know if she was going to survive.

This can be made into a pretty dark and emotional movie if they treat it seriously and not like a video game adaptation.

The story behind the Cleaners is pretty great as well.

I'm gonna be pissed if it doesn't take jake at least 3 mags to kill each enemy. He needs to feel my pain of FL CM

    thats ubisofts thing now.

to be fair the Division had/has lots of potential. It was just all wasted in the game, but this movie could be good.

Of course it wont, but it could be.

The game is actually really fun until you hit 30. And the story is actually kinda good. They could have picked a better game, but it could still be a watchable action movie.

You just described my life with that first sentence there.

Because the concept is marketable and can be made into a movie. It would just be a sci-fi movie.

Mainly because Ubisoft has there own movie production company. Honestly the base idea of Division could actually be interesting as a movie with the right people working on it.

It could actually make a pretty cool movie, though.

But it is a weird choice.

The game is mediocre, the story in the game is quite good though.

It made a shitload of money and is supposed to be the most successful new IP from Ubisoft so it's not really "massively unpopular", without regard to how downhill it's gotten.

With preorder culture always in full swing sales aren't proportional to quality they are proportional to marketing effort.

Pretty much. All studios are going to see is the opening release hype, some strong sales numbers, and that's enough for them. Brand recognition is what gets these movies made, and The Division has enough to make it work.

They already made a pre story movie, the name escapes me at the moment; it's actually not horrible, but still cheesy at times.

It actually broke a bunch of sales records which is all companies care about anyway.

    What

    She's playing Alex.

As is the rest of the cast.

This could work, despite the game being rather shite. It's a good enough apocalypse concept - a pandemic spreads across Manhattan on Black Friday, causing the city to be quarantined. Enter a team of sleeper cell agents who have to find control in the panic.

If you heard Gyllenhaal & Chastain were attatched to that premise, it's probably enough to get your attention.

I love the story, all the little details, echoes, downed Drones, Cell voicemails, dossiers, etc.

The Dark Zone/PvP? Nope, nope nope nope nope nope nope nope

Plus the clips you unlock in the game were fairly disturbing and interesting. Movie might work better than the game

They need to cast Rush Limbaugh as that annoying radio guy.

So it's gonna be 90 minutes of Jake Gyllenhaal trying to kill an APC while three other characters keep getting shotgunned then saying racist things while he patches them up. At the end he'll find a pair of gloves just like the ones he's wearing, just slightly shittier. If it's anything like the game anyway.

Chastain is a really good actress, hope she did this because she believes in the proyect and not because moneyz... although if she did for the latter, well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jessica chastain is damn beautiful.Especially in Interstellar and The Martian

Well, her beauty is another topic. But yes, she is absolutely gorgeous and stylish. I loved her character in The Help.

I agree with the good actress part completely and she was in a lot of great movies, that being said she also was in the Huntsmen sequel...

Of all the video games to adapt into a film...

I mean, the one part of the game I actually liked was the tone, setting and overall storyline (not the in game level story design mind you). All of these things are part of what makes a good movie, throw in some good acting and you have what could be a great film and according to this, they now have that too. A game with a good established universe is the only way a "bad game" can become a good movie.

The game crashed quick, though I did have fun with it...but this isn't really about the gameplay, is it? It's a film adaptation of a game with a cool plot premise. Maybe the movie can do more with it than the game could.

My thoughts exactly. Also it has Jake Gyllenhall attached. After Prince of Persia, he made it known he wouldn't do a movie just cause of money or franchise potential.

Am I the only one who kinda liked Prince of Persia...?

Nope. Loved the shit out of that movie. The fighting was great, the story was pretty boss, the comedy was on point, and the CG was amazing. The acting was sub-par, but that's a frequent problem. It was a solid fantasy movie with good direction. I'll take it.

A lot of salt in this thread.

You think this is salty, then you should see r/thedivision

Oh wow that is pretty bad. I sold my copy of The Division for Doom which seems kind of fitting.

Yeah, a lot of people did. All my friends abandoned The Division and I've stuck with it....until a few days ago. I think I might be done now

huh me and my friend are right about to get back into it since we stopped playing in april like 10hrs after we hit lvl 30. I think we will probably go in super confused

Fuck a division movie, I want a spec ops: the line movie.

The Division doesn't deserve a film adaptation. Dead Space deserves a film adaptation.

Jesus Christ why? The game was.. I wouldn't call it bad, but boring and uninspired. Why bother?

theres already a 'division' show called outbreak on CW right now.

Any word on if, a month or so after seeing this movie, I can trade it in to Game Stop too?

My biggest regret in life is paying $100 for The Division and a season pass. I'm the idiot who is ruining gaming by preordering. I'm convinced Massive/Ubisoft just wants it to die out so they can shut down the servers.

    It's bad. It's really bad.

Same here. I had a $125 Amazon gift card someone had given me for Christmas. I was so excited with all the possibilities of what I could spend it on. After much pressure from a couple of my friends, I pre-ordered the Gold Edition.

I had played the demo and was so iffy about it, but they convinced me it would be a blast with all of us playing together and think of how many months we'd spend playing it. I bought all the online talk about how there would be SOOOOO much more content than in the demo and how people needed to stop worrying.

I even took off work on release day just so I could sit at home and wait for the delivery guy to ring the doorbell and I could sit and play it all day. I felt like a kid again. I think my friends and I played it for maybe 3 weeks before we went right back to Smite. I haven't touched The Division since.

It still pisses me off to think about it, but I guess I learned my lesson. I will NEVER pre-order a game again (except Kingdom Hearts 3, because I know it will be absolute perfection, knock on wood).

Is Jake going to play the guy whose back is all fucked up?

I hope the movie ends with the antagonist, who is a hacker, sprinting by Jake at 100 mph and Jake just falling over dead.

    ...does anybody want this?

btw. isnt the division dead by now ?

Everyone has moved on to overwatch i think.

I can't wait for the heartwrenching scene where Jessica joins Jake in the Dark Zone (TM) and get ganked while trying to extract loot. Again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

Another overhyped game for this disappointing generation of consoles that got mediocre reviews, failed to live up to its hype, and was forgotten. Can't wait for a movie!!!!

    Fuck Hollywood

So if you weren't bored enough with a $60 game that had little to no story, weak characters, terrible gameplay and nothing to offer anyone except gankers and hackers...

Now you can see the movie version.

I hope they include a Chinese hacker that teleports all over the place, can't be killed and instantly kills everyone he comes near while chanting "CHINA NUMBER ONE". I mean, they should stick with the source material, right?

Terrible game play is just a lie. Even if everything else sucked it was mega fun blasting through waves of enemies with friends.

Not so much a lie as overly harsh. The gameplay was competent, but it was fucking boring. The same enemies over and over doing the same thing taking dozens of bullets unflinching.

I'm not saying you or others didn't enjoy it, but it was nothing special. It did very little original. The UI was nice I guess. If I wanted to shoot through waves of enemies with friends.. I have dozens of games to choose from that do it better. I wouldn't call it terrible, it was not terrible but it was meh. Forgettable and easy to leave for something else.

You'd think Gyllenhaal would have learned his lesson after Prince Of Persia.

Cool, making a movie out of a game that barley had a story, makes sense...

hopefully it's not as shit as the game

I have a feeling this will be really good all the way til you get to the end and then it's just one big let down

The Division will take place a week after Donald a Trump is elected president.

All they need is a good director and a good script, and this might actually be worthwhile.

This might actually be decent. The division, as a game, is buggy as hell yes. The underlying premise is captivating and would make for a good movie. This is the problem with the game: it's enticing, the premise is attractive, then you play it...

I hated the game, but it did have some cool lore and backstory so I can definitely see some potential here for a movie. I'm cautiously optimistic for this

If "My back is all fucked up. I need some meds bad" is not spoken at least forty-seven times in this movie I'm going to be disappointed.

Can Ubisoft make this flop too?

    Dumb and lame.

The concept is great, but it will be completely fucked away.
