Well it was probably funny to Truman, considering how outspokenly racist he was.

[–]BritainOpPlsNerfKazuhira "Kaz" Miller 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yes, when I think 'outspokenly racist' I think of the guy who pushed the Committee on Civil Rights towards desegregation.

Lmfao now I'm convinced you are a troll, no one is this ignorant, toddlers with limited motor control aren't this ignorant. 11/10 masterful fucking bait.

mfw I'm an outspoken racist that desegregated the military

[–]Duke_of_Argyll [スコア非表示]  (3子コメント)

Lithuanians would probably know a thing or two about racism, remember that time you people killed Jews with such enthusiasm that the Nazis were a bit scared?

[–]EvanHarper [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

this is very unfair dude

Really Evan? You gonna take that bait? Really? The fucking Lithuanian troll didn't even take it.

Regardless, there were many more rascists; it was an exageration.

Yup. Hitler planned to plant flowers and sunshine in postwar Lithuania. Not liquidate most of population. Stalin just as bad.

[–]DrunkRobot97Knows more about logistics than Erwin Rommel 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

If anything, I expect 'Republican' (because grouping these people with Abraham Lincoln and Thaddeus Stevens makes my skin crawl) talkshows to feature ''''''''''shocking'''''''''' segments of comparing Hitler to Stalin and Mao and showing how, by numbers, the commienists were worse, and that is why Obama and Hillary must be shot. A Republican going on air to say that Hitler was worse would get roasted by the main body (The main body that thought The One with the Tiny Hands should be President).

[–]Montekki[S] -3ポイント-2ポイント  (3子コメント)

And here comes the strawman. Well, in Lithuania both Stalinist and Nazi symbols are banned today, since both regimes killed millions and there a plenty of retard apologists for both. It's cynical and pointless to argue which regime was worse and the only people who do that are neo-Nazis and some conservatives in the West, who don't want to admit the cynicism and hypocrisy of the alliance between the Soviets and the Allies. And Stalin committed Holodomir, deTatarization of Crimea, russification of the Baltics, all of these were ethnic cleansings and genocides that along with his usual political genocides, ended up killing more people than Hitler, and like with Hitler, they only stopped because of his own mortality.

[–]EvanHarper [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

your understanding of postwar American conservatism is bizarre, dude, you're not just making the usual left-wing mistakes but some kind of other mistakes having to do with you personally, or maybe being lithuanian, or some shit?

There's degrees of awfulness. We know what happened under the Soviet Union. I don't discount the crimes of the USSR and the world is better for communism being relegated to the dustbin of history. But we had a chance to observe 50 years of Soviet oppression in Eastern Europe and see what it entails.

But to think that they are comparable to what the Nazis did to Eastern Europe in a brief 5 years, and more importantly what the planned to do is ludicrous. The Nazi regime made no secret of what their plans were. They succeeded in killing off most of Europe's Jewish population. The had put Slavs into literal slavery. They started depopulating portions of Poland and Lithuania to make room for ethnically acceptable aryan ubermensch. They deliberately starved Slavs so that Germans could enjoy an uninterrupted supply of calories, not by mismanagement or fucked up economic policies, but as a deliberate famine with the objective of making it easier to exile the survivors once the war was won.

Stalin was an asshole. The Soviet regime was oppressive, despotic, and at times murderous. Their annexation of the Baltic States was illegal. The oppression of Budapest and Prague was criminal. But after 50s years there were Poles, and Czechs, and Slovaks, and Lithuanians. The same cannot be said of what Europe would look like in 1990 had Hitler had his way.

[–]Montekki[S] [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

But we had a chance to observe 50 years of Soviet oppression in Eastern Europe and see what it entails.

I think this the main problem with your understanding. You confuse Soviet Union with Stalinism. Khrushchev and Brezhnev might have been assholes, but Stalin was a psychopath, the caliber of Hitler. Most of the Stalin's repressive regime was quietly dismantled after his death by Soviets themselves, which was what ultimately stopped MOST of the killings. So we only have periods before the war and 1945-1953 where Stalin had enough control to execute all of his great plans. And the death toll of those plans is massive, even bigger than the Nazis.

[–]EvanHarper 3ポイント4ポイント  (3子コメント)

fam your problem is that the hard left is very bad at history. your perception of what "historical hallucinations are no longer taken seriously even in American academia" is completely distorted; your leading and "particularly bad" example is the mainstream take among working historians for example

The only major caveat is that the Germans were already losing by Overlord.

They weren't losing by Overlord. They have already lost by that point. Overlord happened way too late to have any significant impact on the outcome of the war. What good it had achieved was that it probably saved Western Germany and maybe even France from being behind Iron Curtain during the Cold War.

I guess the more than a million men the Germans used up trying to defend against the invasion would have simply sat on their hands and done nothing if the Western Allies didn't invade?

What good it had achieved was that it probably saved Western Germany and maybe even France from being behind Iron Curtain during the Cold War.

And it probably shortened the war significantly.
