Juventus have completed the £75m signing of striker Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli, in a deal that looks certain to pave the way for Paul Pogba's departure from the Turin club.

Sky Italy are reporting that the Higuain deal has been completed, with Juve ready to confirm the signing that has been the talk of Italian football all summer imminently.

At the age of 29, Higuain's vast fee has been the subject of much scrutiny in recent days, but it appears that Juventus has decided to sign the free-scoring Argentinian after deciding to cash their chips in on Pogba.

The Italian champions are reported to be haggling over the final details of Pogba's move back to United, four years after he left the club for nothing after a contract dispute.

Juventus clearly believe the impact of a striker who scored 36 Serie A goals last season will be more beneficial than Pogba as they look to make progress in the Champions League, with this deal offering echoes of the spending splurge undertaken by Liverpool and Chelsea in January 2011.

That transfer window saw Fernando Torres move to Chelsea for a massive £50m, with Liverpool using that money to spend £35m to sign Andy Carroll from Newcastle.

Those two transfer deals failed to produce results, so we await to see whether the mega-money moves involving Higuain and Pogba will prove to be more profitable on and off the field.
