People who vilified Lysenko didn't quote what Lysenko actually wrote. Let me show you what Lysenko really thought about genetics (from his book Agrobiology - Concluding remarks):

"It is still not clear to some that heredity is inherent not only in the chromosomes, but in any particle of the living body."

"Does this detract from the role of the chromosomes? Not in the least. Is heredity transmitted through the chromosomes in the sexual process? Of course it is."

"We recognize the chromosomes. We do not deny their existence. But we do not recognize the chromosome theory of heredity. We do not recognize Mendelism-Morganism."

"Some of the Morganists who spoke at this session alleged that, together with the chromosome theory of heredity, Lysenko and his followers reject all the experimental facts obtained by Mendelist-Morganist science. Such allegations are false. We do not reject any experimental facts, and this holds good for the facts concerning chromosomes"

Basically, those Mendelists said only that the immutable gene was determining heredity, while Lysenko said that all the living body was determining heredity. Just like bourgeoisie historians who claim that only the kings and great leaders were determining history, while Marxists historians said that all the people were determining history. So in order to improve society, Mendelists seeked to find the "superior" gene and the rest is... you know what.
