Effective immediately, /r/SandersForPresident will be shut down. I'll try to keep this brief. Here are a few notes:

We're sorry. We are sorry we lost, that we weren't able to do more, and we are sorry for any transgressions or mistakes that we've made in the past.

We are so insanely proud of the work we accomplished, and the great things we did together over the last two and a half years. This subreddit raised millions of dollars, made millions of phone calls, and spawned dozens of revolutionary tools and websites. By any measure of success, this campaign (and community) has truly made it's mark in the history books, even though it may not feel like it right now.

We fought hard, gave it our all, and still lost. There is no shame in that. Hold your heads high for the work you did, and promise yourselves and your neighbors that you will never give up the fight for a better and more equal America. We are proud of our work, of your work, of the campaign, of everything. Unfortunately we were not able to win. We are so deeply grateful for the last 32 months. Thank you for joining us on this wild ride.

No, we're not doing this because we're voting for Hillary Clinton. No, the subreddit will not redirect to that subreddit. Yes, we've been saying that for months. I don't know why you people refuse to listen, but the mod team is not made up of Clinton supporters. Some will inevitably vote for her, sure, but many others won't. Some will vote for Stein, or abstain, or move to Norway. Whatever the case may be, we're just regular people. Really really really exhausted, burnt out, regular people.

I repeat. We are not, nor have we ever been, members of the Hillary Clinton campaign, Democratic National Committee, or Correct the Record Inc. Please stop. Those wild theories have been making you look like fools for months.

The subreddit has lost its purpose. There is no more President to campaign for. It is just too much work and too much stress. Too many trolls and too much conflict. Supporters who understand Bernie's message have long-since left to fight for progressives in Congress, and only trolls and opponents remain. We spend all our time banning and deleting posts from Trump and Clinton supporters, trying to turn us against one another, and every comment section is flooded with hate, conspiracy, and campaigning for other candidates. Unfortunately, we cannot continue to allow the movement and the community to become anti-Bernie and to devolve any further.

We do not know your plans, or even all of ours. All we know is that we will continue to work toward a political revolution of progressive candidates and policies. From dog catcher all the way up.

You don't have to follow our lead, but we feel that sitting on the sidelines while candidates like Tim Canova, Pramila Jayapal, and Russ Feingold fight for Bernie's message would be a betrayal of what we have worked so hard for.

Vote for Stein if you want. Or Clinton. Or Trump. Or Vermin Supreme. Or write-in Bernie's name! I really don't care, because it's not my place to use this position to tell you which Presidential candidate to support. Seriously. Vote your conscience. It is your vote and that is the power you have.

But whatever you do, we hope that you keep fighting for progressive politics at all levels. Without electing progressives in all offices, there will never be enough leverage to reform our government to work for all of us. It isn't as popular or sexy, but revolutionizing Congress is just as, if not more important than revolutionizing the White House.

People have died for the right to vote. And your vote, when added to millions of others, makes for an undeniable presence and power.

When we stand together, there is ​nothing​ we cannot accomplish.

PS - To the denizens of /r/all, we're sorta a little bit sorry for being all up in your business the last few years. Thanks for putting up with us.

EDIT: If something drastic changes between tonight and the end of the convention, we will re-evaluate this decision, obviously. But as of now, I have seen over two dozen death threats aimed at Bernie, in addition to the HUNDREDS of threats, vulgar attacks, and trollish behavior that's been flying around for the last month or so. Easily half of our active users each day are here to sow discord, not support.
