PoliticsCountering Modi propaganda on r/india, your views [meta] (self.india)

Guys, since we are witnessing large amount of pro-Modi propaganda on this sub, which is seemingly drowning any other point of view, I got an idea to indirectly fix the situation by worsening it.

Say a large number of people make alts and only submit Modi related news, only upvote pro-Modi posts and comments, and downvote all opposing views, the situation will become unbearable for "normal" people here. They will become bored/angry and leave the sub. Currently the situation is bad, but may be not 100% bad.

At this point, the mods will have to do something otherwise this will become an epic echo chamber.

Firstly, do you think this idea is ethical (of fixing the situation by worsening it), why or why not?

Secondly, I am thinking that may be some people already got this idea and are acting on it.

edit. Frankly speaking I didn't have much of a negative opinion about Modi before I witnessed this mass blind following.

Modi is the most popular leader in this country in a long time (unless all opinion polls are woefully wrong). It is natural thus, that the average/median/normal guy would be his fan. Chill! The day AAP and Congress come up with an equally capable leader, you would see this sub admiring that leader excessively. Now stop PMSing. Go smoke a j or something.

I see what you mean. It is just that I am against any kind of polarization. If his followers kept their devotion within reasonable limits, may be the situation would have been better. But right now, they seem to have lost the sense of proportion.

The word 'Capable Leader' has been abused to a great extent. Traditionally speaking, the public representatives are supposed to be representatives of the public who can identify the problems at large, promote debates and discussion to identify a solution and efficiently implement it. A quiet and unassuming person could also do the job equally well.

There has been very little discussion of Gujarat development model. Modi supporters say it's amazing and never seen before. For example, Jayalalitha stated "facts" to make a claim that Tamil Nadu has seen more development tham Gujarat. Have we seen any counterarguments from Modi camp?

Regarding communal violence in Gujarat, it is plain simple to me. If any decent person was the CM during those riots, that person would at least claim some responsibility to say that the government machinery failed to stop the killings. Please tell me if any decent person would say that such things sometimes happen just like puppies that get killed in road accidents. You know, when Lal Bahadur Shastri was the Railway minister, a train got derailed near Mahabubnagar, Telangana, and some 100 people got killed. Shastri blamed himself for the tragedy and resigned from the post. Nehru eventually persuaded him to take the resignation back. Man, it is called integrity.

You see, I have some reasons that I am perfectly willing to debate. Even if I am truly PMSing over this, I can try my best to indulge in a debate where logic takes precedence over strong emotions. And Modi has been one topic on which I have so far struggled to engage in a good discussion, and I am also partly to blame for that. This guy does evoke some strong reactions, for the good or bad.

(1) Modi has never claimed that Gujarat is the best and most developed state in the country. (2) For what he proposes to do - check the manifesto. Please specify which development agenda you disagree with (3) Shastri was free to do whatever he did. Modi is also free to do whatever he wants. If he believes that he is innocent and being framed, why should he resign and let some lesser leader rule Gujarat? (4) You can't castigate someone without proving guilt - this isn't North Korea or Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

I will give you the Modi story: Typically there are two types of charges - (a) Prima Facie based on which an FIR can be lodged and (b) Evidence beyond reasonable doubt based on which a person can be convicted. Till date, not even an FIR has been lodged against Modi in this case. This is despite 10 years of a hostile opposition in the center, using all its instruments and NGOs to harass the person. Within this period, this person has been elected thrice, and has delivered results (you surely will not claim that Modi has done nothing in Gujarat at all). He may not have achieved everything that can be achieved, but is fatuous to claim that all his achievements in Gujarat are bogus and despite him (including but not limited to physical infrastructure) All this, while other politicians in India have been (1) Mismanaging the economy severely causing rampant inflation and devaluation of the currency (2) destroying industries and not allowing new industries to come in (3) Increasing taxation every day via indirect means like excise , sales tax etc (4) Not building physical infrastructure while existing infrastructure is collapsing (5) Setting up dynasties (6) Enriching their own pockets (7) Commiting all sorts of violent crimes and atrocities (8) Delivering hate speeches (9) Threatening internal security by allowing mass immigration from Bangladesh and handing them ration cards and voter ID cards (10) Making communal statements like wealth of this country belongs to muslims, my name is saleem, trials for muslim youths who are convicted should be speeneded up etc (11) allowing foreign entities to repeatedly fuck us over (China, EU, US etc).......

I don't know what will happen on May 16th. However, I sincerely hope that people of this country see through this BS propagated by the elitist and hyper-left media.

And mark my words on this - come May 16th, the left would be wiped out of this country. The day would be the greatest day in the history of this country since Aug 15th and Jan 26th. It would be the day, when the electorate would finally defeat this empire established by the Nehru Gandhi dynasty, in collusion with the hyper-left and other anti-sovereign elements in this country via the strategy of divide, deprive and rule. For far too long were hindus divided along caste lines. This is a historic moment. Most Modi votes would be Hindus - and this includes large amounts of lower caste votes. This moment my friend, is the end of Jawaharlal Nehru University in this country. I propose that we auction off and privatize these universities anyway. If BITS can do so well on private money, so can these folks. Tax payer's money should not be used to fund separatists.

  • making the sub private and then systemically removing every pro-modi member?

  • or by sitting on reddit 24x7 and religiously deleting propaganda and banning members?

There is no way to fix this other than ignoring it or active participation from the non-fans or saner ones.

Anything which is solidly anti-BJP/anti-Modi can get into the front page. But , there is no such frontpage worth content. Anything anti-AAP doesn't get to the frontpage either. Link me up to some if you find such content. Maybe my support has blinded me.

Anything pro-AAP/anti-BJP CAN get to the forntpage , but is there anything at all?

All I see in the anti-BJP posts is

  • pictures being taken to reference from tweets of parody accounts and calling BJP to be corrupt

  • Picture taken from a tweet with a guy in saffron standing in front of a Gandhi statue flowered by footwear and the post alleges him to be a Modi supporter. Link. Downvoted because not every person in saffron represents BJP.

  • Articles from 2009/10. Now these are good sources , but things might have changed. What was true in 2009/10/11 need not be true now also. These are stale old news.

You can't really. He is the most popular leader by far. Hopefully when and if he does become PM, a little constructive criticism is thrown in. There's no point being blind followers, support Modi as long he continues to deserve our support.

You can't force people to like sehwag or dhoni. Just because dhoni is more popular, doesn't mean there needs to be some "mediating factors " to bring sehwag up to his level ( actually its usually bring dhoni down to.sehwags level)

    The euphoria will dissipate largely after May 16. Did you see the India related content anywhere on the net lately ? All of them refer to Modi and the elections. Reddit is a content aggregation site, so it is aggregating the only topic everyone talks about. Since elections are taking place in Nine phases, there is some over-enthusiasm than normal. All of it will reset once people go back to their lives after May 16.
