It's not like I'm saving any HDD space (aside from the Wii U) since they still require installation. And I hardly sell or trade them in. Sure it's slightly comforting knowing the option exists if I hate the game (ahem...MGSV) but it's a rarity. Over at my buddy's house and we want to play something I own? I simply login into my account and download them to their PS4. Magical.
I stream all my music and movies. Download all my books to a kindle. And, still, here I am in the dark ages fumbling around with physical video games. It's the last frontier. Yet I can't seem to let go. But I have to.
There's no real point to this thread, just venting. If anyone has any recommendations for a 1-2 TB HDD I'd greatly appreciate it. Still rocking the stock 500 GB and it's been a huge hindrance. All I know is that they need to be 2.5" and to avoid Seagate.
I use one of these in my PC, it'll work in your PS4. Just pop it out of the casing.
Digital is the way to go. No impulse to sell games to get new games, either.
I love how we've reached the point where getting a drive with a casing is less expensive than getting the bare drive.Originally Posted by Enter the Dragon Punch

The frequencey of sales is something else, and I'm finding often that the big AAA games can be had cheaper than phsyical.
The main issue many bring up is pricing but that's getting much better now, provided you don't NEED to have a game on release day.
I've never been one to sell or trade games so there's really no reason to be physical. I know some will argue that with physical games you can potentially go back and play them, but again I NEVER go back to old consoles, and with the way patches are almost essential and the amount of online games it's a moot point anyway.

Hm. That's reasonable. I've read I should avoid Seagate though. But the customer reviews seem good and lots of them mention using this one in their PS4.Originally Posted by Enter the Dragon Punch

Ohhhh no, you have to open a case and then close it again? This sounds like such a tough task!Originally Posted by breakfuss

Jesus christ.
I don't just play games but I collect them too, I never feel like I actually own a digital game.
I understand that it's mostly habit or nostalgia or both, but I tend to stick to physical regardless. (Also my Wii U would explode if I had gotten XenoX AND smash 4 digitally)
And I guess I never found the 15 seconds it takes to switch the disc an issue
I get what you're saying, I do sometimes miss the feeling of removing the plastic seal from a game, reading the manual (back in the day) but nowadays I literally view games as consumables. I pay my money, get my hours of enjoyment and move on.Originally Posted by Jonneh3003

The only thing that I dislike at times is when I buy a game I hate digitally as I'm stuck with it. With physical I could sell it and recoup some money, but if consoles implement a refund policy like steam and origin I'd be all set.
Get rid of hard/soft region blocks and I'd go all digital.

Same...i wish i bought overwatch digitally now
But
The op dramatizes the process of using physical games to the point that it kinda sounds like satire
I'm all digital on my 3DS though. Physical games defeats the purpose of a portable system.
I think one reason that often get's overlooked (or rather the main reason I like digital) is the convinience of actually purchasing.Originally Posted by GiantBreadbug

Now I'm not saying purchasing a game is difficult, I could sit back and order it online and receive it next day from Amazon for example. But I absolutely LOVE being able to browse a flash sale and buy a game and get to play it shortly after. I tend to do much more impulse purchases that way too.
Yes I know I could walk into a shop, buy a game and play it shortly after but it's not the same. I mean I often end up randomly buying a game at like 1am on a Friday night.
I've completely abandoned physical media for the reasons you've listed. Just don't have the patience anymore and my PS4 sounds like it's going to explode any time the disc drive spins up. I hope the Neo is made with some actual effort.Originally Posted by breakfuss

I think that's a problem with you, not physical games.
The convenience makes it all worth it for me.
You sound upset because someone else enjoys the conveniences that technology has brought him/her. Why not be happy for the OP?Spending 5 seconds opening a case and inserting a disc makes you feel restricted?

The cloud doesn't rot, get dusty or perish in a house fire. A perfect 1:1 copy of my download can be brought back if required.
The problem is that AAA games are so darn big, they take forever to download. I suppose it's better if you have really fast internet (and have your console plugged into ethernet), but I don't.I think one reason that often get's overlooked (or rather the main reason I like digital) is the convinience of actually purchasing.

You make it sound like its actual tough work to open a cd case.
I'd buy physical again if they went back to including instruction manuals or anything to make the product a little more fun to open and look at. Shit's bleak as it is now, nowhere near enough of a reason to not choose convenience.
I was dead set against digital games last gen, and maintained. This gen the urge to go digital is always there, and i'll cave eventually.
I blame smartphones/apps creating new habitual behaviors/norms.
Here's a HDD thread. I left some instructions on my recent HHD swap.

This is the #1 reason I like to go digital. No pressure to sell the game to get something back.Originally Posted by Enter the Dragon Punch

The flip side is digital games will never degrade and eventually be nonfunctional due to bit rot. It could be argued that it will take so long for blurays to reach that point but we're already there with ps1 games and the like. I offloaded all of my old retro stuff over the last year as I don't want to deal with worrying about preservation and someday it will all be worthless plastic and cardboard junk.Originally Posted by Jonneh3003
That's how I feel too, every game I own has some kind of value, a digital game is worthless. I love decorating my shelves with game boxes and books.
I think it also helps that I am primarily a PC gamer and PC has been basically all digital since what, 2008?
When I was a kid I had to sit on the floor and used a wired controller! I had to unplug the controller after I was done playing the game and put it away. I even had to press a power button on the console to shut it off!!! /sOhhhh no, you have to open a case and then close it again? This sounds like such a tough task!

Seriously, opening a case and putting the disc on the drive takes a second.
Exactly. When you die, how is your mom/wife going to have that yard sale where all games are $3 unless you buy physical copies? Do you think she's going to take your account credentials and sell them to someone online? Doubtful. If you buy digital you're cheating them out of money they will need in a difficult time. What are you going to have to show for in the future, a hard drive or a collection of physical game cases?
That plus BestBuy GCU keeps me physical.
A whole lot more appealing than this:
(Not my images)
I understand those who prefer digital setups, I'm just not one of them. Need a trophy to add to the shelf.
And don't get me started on having to read menus. Like WTF adjust the brightness for me it's 2016 LOL.
