Honestly it's lucky for the rest of the world.

If the US didn't have basketball, baseball and football they would be really really fucking good at rugby and soccer.

Take the US medal count at the Olympics and apply that to major international tournaments. It would be like watching the dream team in the early 90's every damn year.

Yeah I mean the US has more gold medals than silver or bronze. It's insane

Those Norwegians are going down.

Also I think it's funny that the USSR medals are separate from the Russia medals... I wonder if they count the Nazi Germany medals alongside Germany.

USSR contained Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Kazakhstan, and many other countries. So automatically combining the Soviet totals with Russia's doesn't make sense.

Yeah but Nazi Germany had Hitler.

So?

That's like +1,000 to motivation. UBERMENSCHEN

Very naive.

Not in any way.

The US puts out more medal winning Olympic athletes than any other country in the world.

Explain to me why it would be naive to believe that if the United States, who currently employs more highly paid athletes than any other country in the world, would not dominate if they focused on only two major sports.

If there was a sports culture where athletes were raised playing soccer or rugby, how would the US not excel?

It's a ridiculous sentiment - the fact is you don't excel at any sports apart from those only played in America. That's a fact, not a guess based on unfounded conjecture and patriotism.

Even your cycling team is a disgrace.

Name a country that has more gold medals in the Olympics.

If you want another sport, golf. The US has the most majors, masters, Open and PGA champs.

US has more grand slam singles tennis champions than any other country.

I mean how many do you want me to name?

This is just making you sound really, really insecure.

The US has zero presence in football, rugby and cricket - two of these are the two most popular sports in the world, and the other is the subject of this thread.

I sound insecure directly answering your question?

Two of those three sports I was directly talking about before you commented.

It's very easy to make statements, get corrected and claim the other person is getting defensive.

No, your original cringeworthy comment is where you sound really insecure (and massively deluded and arrogant).

Honestly, makes me shudder a bit reading it.

I stand by that.

If the United States soccer and rugby programs didn't get the sloppy seconds from the other major sports then they would be elite, world class programs.

The athletic talent pool in the United States is so large, they wouldn't have any issue competing on a national level.

Look at US women's soccer. They are a great program because soccer is far more popular in women's athletics than men's in the United States.

If you think this opinion is cringeworthy then that's on you. I really don't care if it comes off as arrogant because it is the truth. If you take offense, I relish in that.

It's completely deluded.

For example, New Zealand which has a population of only 4.5 million people and a relatively tiny economy is generally considered to have the best rugby team in the world.

Your logic seems to be based on olympic success, but, again, NZ won more medals per capita the last olympics than the US.

Your argument is flawed and regardless of your silly conjecture the fact is that the US performs woefully poorly in the three most popular team sports in the world, and only does well in team sports that no-one else plays. NFL is only the 9th most popular sport in the world, baseball is 7th.

Baseball has 500m fans - quite a lot! Football (soccer) has 3.5 billion.

Simple facts, no conjecture.
