Manchester United officials are meeting with their Juventus counterparts in Italy to try to thrash out a world record transfer deal for Paul Pogba, according to ESPN.

The Premier League giants have been strongly linked with the French international all summer and according to the report they have spent several weeks working on a deal to bring the 23-year-old back to Old Trafford.

It is being reported that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has flown to Italy to broker a deal having not travelled on the club’s pre-season trip to China.

The Guardian reported earlier this week that the Serie A champions had rejected United’s opening offer, believed to be £87 million up front and a further £13 million in add-ons.  United are now expected to make an improved offer for Pogba during their discussions in Italy this week.

Paul Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, did post on Twitter today to state that no deal has been done just yet.

Should Manchester United come to an agreement with Juventus, the transfer fee is set to eclipse Gareth Bale’s world record £100 million when he left Tottenham Hotspur for Real Madrid in 2013.

Pogba has been with Juventus for four seasons, winning the Scudetto on every occasion and reaching the 2015 UEFA Champions League final.  It appears he is now keen to move on to prove his talent elsewhere, with Manchester United apparently his next destination.

ESPN sources believe Manchester United are confident in agreeing a deal with Juventus.

We reported earlier in the week that Manchester United have already agreed personal terms with Paul Pogba, worth £54 million over five seasons.

José Mourinho is looking to add a driving force to the centre of his midfield and Pogba appears to be the person for that job.  The centre midfielder is quick, powerful and technically sound.  Whilst he does need to sharpen up on his tackling, the French international is good at bringing the ball forward and starting attacks,.  He has scored a handful of cracking goals from long distance.
