What is it Pogba does?? (self.reddevils)

So after looking around on the subreddit i haven't really seen this question asked.

As someone who hasn't watched Pogba a lot I have some questions regarding his playstyle and what he brings to a team.

The general opinion of most football fans seem to that he is a very good dribbler, got strength, a nice understanding of the play and is a good passer. Good qualities, I agree. But what I haven't really understood what he is expected to do on the pitch.

During the euros we saw him struggle as a DM so conclusively that isn't his natural position, is he more of a Box to Box player, a central winger (like Payet) or is he a CAM? What did he play for Juventus?

I hope someone who has a better understanding of him can help me out, also what do you expect of him in a United squad? What do you thing will be his main position for us?

He's more of an attacking/box to box mid. He's okay defensively but he's not a DM. He's tall, powerful, has a few skills and is known to score thundercunts. He can pretty much do everything.

He is a similar mould to Yaya, he can tackle but is no defensive expert. He is strong, quick, has great control, his passing range can sometimes be magnificent, in general he is a top CM who has all the physical ability and technical ability a player needs.

I think you are trying to pigeonhole him a bit into one role, plus what on earth is a central winger.

I think you're honestly better off looking for Pogba highlights from Juventus to get a better idea and actually see things first hand instead of have people describe it, as it seems you don't really know he's a CM for one thing. It'll show you first hand his best qualities.

Is "central winger" an actual term I've never heard of? Like a winger who consistently cuts inside maybe?

Think he just means an attacking midfielder, but the type that can play anywhere from the wing to the middle. Mikhitaryan might be another example. Basically pacy players who can go by players but are just as comfortable in the center. Either that or I'm completely off haha

He is a creative box to box midfielder who needs someone more defensive alongside him to shine. He is an amazing dribbler and he will be expected to bring out the ball from middle of the park and charge towards goal with teammates making runs in the box and the wings.

According to Whoscored.com here are the characteristics of his play which will make you understand him better.

Strengths:

Long shots, Dribbling, Aerial Duels, Key Passes, through balls, concentration.

Weakness :

Nothing significant

Style of play:

Likes to dribble, commits foul often

As you can see he doesn't have attributes of a defensive mid like tackling and interception. That's why he struggled in a defensive mid role in france. But partner him with a defense oriented mid and give him license to go forward often and you may see wonders.

The thing that makes him so unique is that he's a physical monster and he's good technically. He can literally do everything that a midfielder would ever need to do. He can defend and tackle, he can attack, shoot and dribble. His awareness of the spaces in midfield are good and his passing range is good. He's a physical freak too so he'll get up and down the pitch, he'll win the ball back and he'll be a strong presence in the midfield. He's also incredibly difficult to dispossess as he's so strong and his feet are so good.

There aren't many players, if any, that combine all these things together. There are player out there that are better at certain aspects of the game, but very, very few that are so good in all departments. He's basically a "jack of all trades" who has the potential to master quite a few of those trades. A rare thing indeed.

Box to Box midfielder with an enormous passing range, quick thinking on the ball and ability to read the game.

He pretty much excels at strength, speed, technical ability, passing ability, shooting, his vision is great, he can bring the ball forward, pick out a pass, he is great in possession, and to top it all - he is relatively good in tackling. So pretty much - he's good at everything you need as a central midfielder. Therefore he can play anywhere in the middle, but is at his best at central midfielder with more attacking responsibilities or as an attacking midfielder.

I'm not sure where he will play in our team - either behind the striker instead of Mata / Rooney, or behind one of those, more as a box to box midfielder, next to some one who is more defensive minded, like Schneiderlin.
