New Man U fan with questions (self.reddevils)

So, I'm new to soccer. I've tried to get into it before, but fell off, however I did have a favorite player. Paul Pogba. I've wanted to get into the beautiful game for a long time and this seems like as good a reason as any, especially since I like English teams. I'm clueless however, about a few mechanics of the game such as how leagues work, how many championships there are, positions, etc. I anyone could teach me a few things about the game and this team, that'd be appreciated. Go Man United. Edit: Read into the whole Man U thing, really messed up stuff. Apologies if I've offended anyone through ignorance.

Apparently calling ourselves Man U is an insult, so refrain from using that name and we're in the 1 st division of English football called the English Premier League, we're in an European cup called Europa league, and the one above it is the Champions League, where the best teams in Europe battle for victory. There's a League Cup called the Capital One cup, which isnt really important. We have the FA Cup, which is the oldest Cup in action today. We won the FA Cup last season, so we'll be facing Leicester City who won the League.

Not a United fan so it's not really my place but here's my two cents on the whole "Man U" being an insult debacle:

You have to own it. AFAIK, Man U in itself isn't an insult, it derives from a particularly nasty chant involving the Munich disaster which was apparently enough for United fans at large to consider the term itself taboo. But people aren't going to stop using it, and putting an informal ban on it is basically akin to admitting that rival fans have power over you. Since the term in itself is harmless you should adopt it rather than shun it. Make it your "nigga".

Just my opinion as an outside fan, anyways.

Okay, is there any cup that spans across all leagues? Like the Champions League is Europe, so is there one that is all leagues combined or is that the World Cup? Sorry, clueless. And I take it we're Red Devils fans?

Winners of all confederations go head to head in FIFA Club World Cup. Looks very promising but usually noone gives two shits about it.

Fifa club world cup. It has the winners of each continental champions battle it out. Eg champions league winner, copa libertadores winner, and the African caf winner, as well as asian cups which I'm not sure of

World Cup is National Teams clashing with each other, and Champions League/Europa League are European Club teams clashing with one another

Okay firstly, try not to refer to us as Man U because while I personally don't mind, people on here don't seem to like it. Next, I'm not sure exactly what you don't understand about the league but as a quick overview there are five professional leagues in England but we only really care about the top two:the Barclays Premier League and the Championship. Every season each of the 20 teams play every other team twice resulting in a 38 game season. You get 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and none for a loss. At the end of the season, the first placed team wins the league, the 1st to 4th placed teams enter a competition called the UEFA Champions League where all the best teams in Europe play each other. The 5th to 7th placed teams enter into the Europa League, which is like the Champions League's little brother and has a lot worse teams in it. Then the 8th to 17th placed teams stay in the division, whilst the 18th, 19th and 20th placed teams are relegated to the Championship (a lot of people new to the game get the champions league and championship mixed up), and the best 3 teams from the Championship come up to the Premier League.

Champions League is like the World Cup.

FA and Carling cup you just have a humongous bracket tourney, and play till the final. FA Cup starts every year before it finishes, there's that many teams.

Wow. That's a lot to remember. So, We're in the Premier League, competing to win that. If we rank in the top of our league, we go to the Champions League which is the best of the best from the top teams competing? Is this right?

Champions league is not like the world cup. It's only for Europe.
