They say it a lot here in Aus but I don't like it. Feels like it cheapens it. If I shorten it I just call them United - there's no other United more famous than Manchester United.

No other Manchester either.

"ManU" is a lot more than cheapening the name though, its a Munich insult.

Obviously for people that don't know and use it as must abbreviation shouldn't be attacked though as I know a lot of people do use it as abbreviation

Supporting the club goes back generations in my family and we were told never to say 'Man U'. Something along the lines of it's always been something rivals call us as an insult and it's used in a lot of anti-United songs.

Personally, I don't like it but wouldn't ever call out a fellow fan for using it.

I like the full name, it gives more power. I seriously hate when people call Anthony Martial "Tony", but I know it's me just being a cunt.

Most of my colleagues at work and friends who I've known for years living in SG call the club that way. I keep telling them not to call that way.

In NZ we always say that. Never felt weird or got any reaction to it.

I imagine many foreign fans haven't heard about why some despise the name. I think it has something to do with rival fans using it to taunt about the Munich air disaster. As someone who is a foreign fan, I try to respect those with more local ties to the club. And since learning that some don't like it, I don't use it. However, I've never actually met someone who told me not to, just read about it on the Internet.

I feel the same way. If I'm using a shortened version on Manchester United, I just say United. Most people understand that I'm talking about Manchester.

That's mostly internet folklore, Man U is not in anyway offensive, it's just not the common nomenclature. Not to mention we've never been the fanbase who would stop doing something because fans taunted us, we sing "Who the fuck are Man United?" remember.

I never hear that here. Well except that my mum says it, I correct her every time. It's so cringey.
