As the rhetoric from the Republican Convention grows increasingly violent, the Secret Service is making it known that they will not tolerate the threats being made against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
The Secret Service is investigating Trump’s “veterans advisor,” Al Baldasaro, who made headlines yesterday by calling for “traitor” Hillary Clinton to be executed by firing squad.
“I believe Hillary Clinton committed treason. She put people in danger. When people take confidential material off a server, you’re sharing information with the enemy. That’s treason…anyone who commits treason should be shot” said Baldasaro, not caring that it is not his place to judge whether or not she committed “treason,” but that we actually have an agency for that. That agency found Secretary Clinton very much not guilty.
“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of this matter and will conduct the appropriate investigation,” said spokesman Robert Hoback to The Daily Beast.
It just goes to show that the right-wing’s obsessive demonization of Secretary Clinton has reached such dangerous levels that death threats are being made by campaign officials – Trump’s camp, incidentally, has not responded to requests for comment. This is an abhorrent disgrace to our political system. Secretary Clinton has been a public servant for most of her adult life and has served her country with unflinching devotion in both the Senate and as Secretary of State. She is certainly no traitor, merely a threat to Trump and his insincere ambitions – and if this barbaric behavior is given a pass at the Trump camp, God only knows how they would behave in the White House.
