Just because Negareddit likes to stand against reddit's circlejerks, doesn't mean it itself isn't just as circlejerky and thought-terminating as the rest of reddit (self.Negareddit)

I made the mistake of "defending" Trump (i.e., arguing that he's not really a fascist) with quotes and evidence and all I got in return were accusations of me buying into propaganda or being privileged. It's pretty obvious from the front page of Negareddit that there is a mainstream opinion here, and people are not accepting of dissent.

What I find utterly hypocritical is that the Trump backers say exactly the same thing, and that gets downvoted here, too.

No, I'm pretty sure the reason for the OP not taking a stance is because it has nothing to do with the point of the post, which is to claim that Negareddit is circlejerky, it doesn't say Negareddit's opinions are right or wrong.

Horseshoe theory is irrelevant here.

Well, it's still true but I consider almost every community on reddit circlejerky. An up/downvote system where downvoted stuff gets hidden has this big downside. It doesn't mean some communities are less than others and less awful too.

I do agree with you there, then, on both accounts. It's a bit inescapable here, and even the pretense of trying to escape it is generally a Trojan Horse of "you have to roll out the red carpet for our neo-nazi barking or you are close-minded and rejecting our Valuable Conversation!"

No, I am taking a stance. I'm a Marxist with a particular position on politics and I disagree with Negareddit's mainstream opinion. My point is that most of Negareddit is simply fine with not taking it seriously.

Christ, that doesn't even make any sense!? Being a Marxist is completely different than having this or that identity. All it means is that I subscribe to a particular philosophy of politics and history that guides my understanding of our present situation, and being a radical philosophy it most likely differs from the common perception of things, such as in Negareddit. Can you please engage seriously, instead of making inconsistent one/two-line quips?

All I'm saying is that Negareddit has a pretty shitty circlejerk, which would be evident to anyone who disagrees with the mainstream Negareddit opinion and should be evident even to those who agree. That my own political position came up at all is because you and this other person weirdly claimed that I have no stance, that I'm one of those people who think that you have to take the middle road on everything.

I dunno, I never have thoughts terminated from Negareddit, but sometimes it gives me insight I wouldn't have gotten from default reddit. It can be circlejerky yeah.

That's a feature of Reddit as a whole.

The specialized subreddits and upvote/downvote system encourages ideological conformity and the propagation of low effort comments that cater to the lowest common denominator. Negareddit isn't somehow immune to this reality regardless of what people might say about it. The difference is that the consensus here tends to be divergent from what you would find in most other places on Reddit (especially if you venture outside of the metasphere).

I don't think we should be "accepting of dissent" if that means letting in every single person who might take umbrage at a post here to go on their own little spiel and derail the community's focus. This isn't a debate forum nor should it seek to become one. /r/changemyview might be what you are looking for if you are seeking something of that nature.

Yes, we are just as bad as they are. My objection to mainstream reddit isn't and has never been the tired echo chamber complaint. It is the content of the echo.
