0' The teams are out. United in blue, Wigan in white. Wigan are kicking off!

5' Five minutes in and United are still finding their feet. Everyone's getting a touch of the ball, and it's being passed around calmly for now.

8' First "sort-of chance" of the match: TFM swings a low ball to Mkhi who takes a touch and backheels to Memphis but his shot is blocked. Herrera then gets back to business with a poor tackle from behind giving away a free-kick.

11' Mkhi with a surging run through midfield and he feeds Memphis on the wing who eventually wins a corner.

17' United have had a couple of corners but all of them are being swung into the box and are coming to nothing. The latest just bounces through the box and out of play.

21' Wigan have their first chance of the match with a free-kick in a semi-dangerous position. It's taken short though and they continue passing it around.

24' MEMPHIS COMES CLOSE! Mkhitaryan with a lovely low ball across the box and Memphis pokes it wide with his right foot when he surely could've and should've scored with his left!

30' Half an hour has gone by and after a few minutes of Wigan pressure, United are back on the front foot. Memphis's shot from outside of the box flashes past the Wigan goal in our most recent chance.

35' Mkhi has a shot fly over the bar as it falls to him at the back post unexpectedly.

45' HALF TIME

A pretty boring first half to be honest. Lots of possession, not very clinical in taking chances. Very obviously a pre-season game to be honest. Not unexpected.

48' MANCHESTER UNITED GOAL Jaaskelainen with a terrible mistake as he plays a back-pass straight to Mata who lays it off to Will Keane who couldn't miss the open goal if he tried.

56' United creating a lot more chances in the beginning of this half. Quite a few crosses have flashed across goal or touches have gone just wide.

58' MANCHESTER UNITED GOAL That's a lot better! Pereira smacks a peach into the top left-hand corner of the goal and leaves Jaaskelainen with no chance! A clever free kick off the training ground is played low to Herrera but he mis-hits his shot but it then falls to Pereira who swivels and nearly tears a hole through the net!

66' Wigan are controlling more of the tempo right now but the game has slowed a lot in comparison to the past 20 or so minutes.

85' Five minutes left and I think we're all comfortable with United just passing the ball around for a bit. Sidenote: Nick Powell has dived in and fouled a United player at least three times by now and he's a man on a mission running around the pitch right now.

Mata, loved you today mate, great work ethic and lovely quick thinking. Would have loved for Mkhitaryan to play a bit more but was the best part of the first half, Blind done well, Pereira in the CDM Role was suprisingly great quick thinking, not getting caught on the ball, 2 Strikers nothing too great but they're still young and are our 4th and 5th strikers down the line. Good solid performance, defence wasnt tested but Bailly and Jones/Blind were good at making sure they stayed alert. Memphis showed eagerness which was enjoyable to see and I'm sure he'll shut up a lot of critics in the next few games.

Others will be able to summarise better than I can, but here's the impressions I got:
Bailly - extremely good on the ball, solid in defence, a lot of promise
Mkhitaryan - best player in the first half, set up great plays, top class
Memphis - looks a lot sharper and quicker than usual, put in a lot of effort, still lacking in end product
Shaw - solid game, provided support and solid in defence, pace was incredible

Other notes: Pereira and Varela did fantastic in CM in second half

      I'd love to see Pereira regularly in the squad, but if we get Pogba there's no way that happens. Pogba is the same type of offensive mid, but he's just much better. Along side him you'd want someone defensively minded, Pereira is not that.
